I've spent the last several weeks arguing for 19, and slapping down counter arguments in the Rants and Raves section of craigslist here in the LA area.

Thousands of people read it every day. I'm asking concerned Californians to use this free bully pulpit to spread the word in their local craigslist.

Here's a recent one. You can't c&p it and post it on other lists, but you can take a few minutes to write up a good argument for legalization. Feel free to borrow any points made here, or write your own.

Shine the light of truth into the darkness on craigslist! Change some minds.

I've watched with interest all the propaganda flying around about how evil pot is.

"Someone might give pot candy to your kids this Halloween!" Did you guys see that one? Propaganda passing itself off as news. Medical pot candy's been around for 14 years, but somehow THIS year is when the Sherriff decides to have a big press conference and have it repeated over and over that some prankster might give kids some pot-laced candy.

For the record, no, it's never happened. Also, that candy is awfully expensive to be giving away. If a kid DID eat some pot-laced candy, whatever the doseage, it wouldn't hurt them. They could get really high, which might cause some anxiety, but you wouldn't need a stomach pump. It would wear off and they wouldn't have so much as a headache afterwards. It's never killed anyone.

I've heard countless commercials saying 19 would compromise workplace safety. People all over California would suddenly be turning up at work high as a kite.

Oh, really? Alcohol's been legal for decades. Do people get drunk and show up to work? They might, but do you seriously think they'll stay employed very long? If I showed up high on any drug at my job, I'd be fired immediately.

Here's what a "doctor" posted earlier here:
---------------------------------------
A Doctor's View On Pot

Some people addicted get schizophrenic tendency's. Others turn bi-polar. Some have no effect. Smoking pot is like Russian Roulette. You just don't know what you'll get. Sorry.
-------------------------------

I'm sorry, but wouldn't a real doctor know about sentence structure and how to spell "tendencies?" A real doctor would also know that the US government (yes, the government) patented marijuana as an antioxidant and neuroprotectant. They're now studying its anti-cancer properties. How about that? A recreational drug that fights cancer and protects the brain? I don't think alcohol does that. Schizophrenia? Really?

Unlike the "doctor," I can prove what I say: Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants - US Patent 6630507 Abstract

Who's behind keeping pot illegal? The usual suspects: Prison guards, cops, the alcohol industry, and of course, the drug cartels, who get 60% of their income from a plant.

Pot prohibition is costing us hundreds of millions in legal costs, while the pot profiteers walk away with 14 billion a year in Cali. We need to learn the lesson America learned during alcohol prohibition: Making it illegal creates a black market, and all the wrong people control it.

I'm voting yes this Tuesday, for the reasons cited above, and many more. Remember the old saying: Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result, is insanity.

A no vote is a vote to put money in the hands of criminals, and to expose our kids to a drug they can get more easily than alcohol. Illegal drug dealers don't ask for ID.

I've noticed something about the "No on 19" crowd. They don't have a logical leg to stand on, so they resort to fear tactics and outright lying. I'm so sick of liars. I hope you are, too. We need jobs, income, and tax revenue. We need to keep drugs away from minors. We need to vote YES on 19.
