Just minutes before the candidates were slated to face off in Lexington, MoveOn.org representative Lauren Valle was walking through the crowd of Paul boosters with a sign when she was grabbed by several men, one of whom pulled a blonde wig off her head while another pushed her to the curb and stomped on her face.

"These supporters were not very nice to me and my message, which is the same as everyone else â?? I just wanted to get out here with a sign, but I got my head stepped on," Valle told a reporter from Louisville's Fox41, trying to regain her breath. "I have a bit of a headache.

The television news crew posted the graphic footage of the attack on Valle, who was attempting to give Paul a mock award from "RepubliCorp," an initiative started by MoveOn that highlights corporate giving to Republican candidate.

Police questioned Valle, but it is unclear whether anyone would be charged.

Neither the footage nor the local reports indicated that either candidate witnessed the assault.

Another update for you on the situation developing in Lexington, KY, where a MoveOn supporter was attacked and stomped on by Rand Paul supporters

Sherelle Roberts, a public information officer for the Lexington division of police tells TPM that investigators have made no arrests and filed no charges in the case. But because the incident was caught on camera, officers are optimistic that a breakthrough is imminent.

"I think we're probably going to come up with something later today," Roberts said, adding that tips have been coming in literally from around the country about who the suspects in the attack might be. "Because it was captured on video, we have a good idea what happened [and] at this point there doesn't seem to be anything to justify how this incident unfolded."

Though the victim of the attack, Lauren Valle, was interviewed by police on the scene for about 20 minutes, none of the suspects were questioned. Roberts explained the crowd was chaotic, and the perpetrators had disappeared into it by the time police arrived.

"We weren't able to make contact with them," she said. "There was a large crowd of more than 100 people gathered.... By the time the officers were able to get to the scene the incident was over."

MoveOn's political director Ilyse Hogue tells us that Valle suffered a concussion and sprains to her shoulder and arm as a result of the stomping. We'll continue to keep you updated as information unfolds.

The Rand Paul campaign has just severed ties with their Bourbon County coordinator -- a man by the name of Tim Profitt -- who has identified himself as the supporter who stomped on the head and neck of a MoveOn activist outside of the Senate debate in Lexington, KY last night, according to Fox News.

Profitt apologized for the scuffle to the Associated Press this afternoon, and apparently told them that the camera angle made the incident appear worse than it really was.

Tim Profitt, the Rand Paul supporter behind the white sneaker that notoriously stomped on a MoveOn activist's head in Kentucky, sought to play down the importance of the incident Tuesday, and went so far as to ask the victim for an apology.

"I don't think it's that big of a deal," Profitt told WKYT. "I would like for her to apologize to me to be honest with you."

While the victim, Lauren Valle, said Tuesday that she believed the campaign workers' violent reaction to her presence there was "premeditated," Profitt told WKYT that he thought Valle was following a strict protocol with the intent of creating controversy.

"She's a professional at what she does," Profitt said, "and I think when all the facts come out, I think people will see that she was the one that initiated the whole thing."

He then blamed the forceful downward motion of his foot on the head of Valle as a function of chronic back pain, a claim he has made before:

"I put my foot on her, and I did push her down at the very end, and I told her to stay down. I actually put my foot on her to -- I couldn't bend over because I have issues with my back," Profitt said.

Profitt, who was once touted proudly by the Rand Paul campaign as its Bourbon County coordinator, has since been cut off from the Tea Party-backed Republican Senate candidate.

He is going to be charged with 4th degree assault and could face up to a year in the can.
