Can the hood of my 400w HPS light touch my closet wall?

Hello, I am typically an outdoor grower, but this year my entire crop was ripped off, except for some small clones. I am moving the operation indoor for the first time. I have decided to use my closet, which is about 5 ft wide and 3 ft deep (average closet). Problem is, I am using the clothes hanger in the closet to hang up my 400w HPS hood/light, and the hood touches the closet wall. Is this a fire hazard? I will be lining the walls with mylar, and I want to make sure I am not going to burn my house down with the hood touching the wall. This will be my first indoor grow, and therefore a learning experience. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

sorry to hear about the crop loss. that blows. you should be fine with the hood touching the wall. run the light for a couple of hours and keep an eye on it, just to be sure. i've had 17x 23W CFLs in a 4 sq ft cardboard box when i first started and it was fine, lol.

    I have two 400 watt HID lights in a 4 x 2 closet. I raised the clothes bar, for extra hanging height...about 7 foot....
AC cools the dark room and the closet. I got by with one 400...but, two is better.

I like tall, top heavy females.....I lean them against the wall or string them up....(9 weeks)...

Sweet, thanks so much for the advice. I have it kind of ghetto rigged right now, apparently hanging it is a two person job.. Also, I simply have an oscillating fan going in there, is that going to keep it cool enough in there, or will I definitely need to get some ventilation going in there? Again, this was not planned, and I already took a huge financial hit with my crop being stolen, so I was trying to keep this as low budget as possible, without being so thrifty that I am wasting my time. Any and all advice is appreciated.
    Happy growing

you HAVE to keep temps under 85 degrees..(78 is ideal)...& as much ventilation as possible

Odor is the biggest problem after week #6 flowering; I can only beat this by; keeping people out of the 'man cave' house....

Yeah, so the closet was getting to be 90 degrees F when the door was closed. So, I have been keeping the door cracked with the fan on to keep it below 85 degrees. If I leave the closet door open, it stays right around 78 degrees F.
I bought the Xtrasun air cooled hood/light. How/what do I hook up to the hood designed for the air cooling of the light?? Do I hook up duct to it and direct it outside the closet? If you could break down the simplest method for ventilation, that would be great. I have done some research, but I can not put holes in the ceiling for vent. because I am a renter.. I considered buying another door, and altering that to allow for ventilation. Just wasn't sure if there is an easier way.
    Thank you!!!
    Happy Growing!
p.s. I'll post some pics later this afternoon so everyone can critique my set up.

OK, so easy as that huh? My next question is: Will leaving the closet door cracked cause me to lose a lot of light? In other words, should I be concerned about the light loss?
