How much light would you suggest?

For that many seedlings a 4 tube 4' fluorescent "shop-light" will do, if you keep it at 2 or 3 inches from the crowns.
After the 3rd set of leaves, switch to MH but hang it high.

I'm in a 11' x 13' room, with 10' ceilings.. I plan to switch to metal halide asap, and then to hps when i'm ready for flowering. Also, as for the watering, i was doing it vigorously for the first couple days.. The peat pots were exposed to too much light, and all the soil(even under the surface) was completely drying out.. Now that i keep them inside 24/7, they seem to be doing alright. They're five days old, and about 3" tall.. All have their first true leaves, some are working on their second set already . I'm really excited. Sorry, got a little off subject. But, for the lights, i was kind of thinking 2 600 watt bulbs,

That' ll do for about half the room.
With that many plants you may need more "footprint".
Just a guess here, I know nothing about growing large.

but i really don't know how high to keep them, or anything of that sort.. The possibilities with this room seem endless, it's just.. the budget that causes a slight problem.
You might want to divide and conquer.
If you split the room into two rooms and put yer lights on wheels...
Those 2 600W lights can spend 12 hours in one room, then 12 hours in the other.
Lotta work, but half the power cost per gram.
If you split the room into 3. you can also keep cloning and planting in one of them for a perpetual harvest.
