i stop in my local store every week. and if i am in my travels and see another grow store i stop in to price check and maybe find something thats on the clearance rack and pick up anything i might want to try.
i am pretty sure that there is no one staking out the store copying down you plantes and following you home. it is great for you to be able to go into your store and ask questions as long as their is knowelgable staff there. my local store isnt that wonderful other than telling you the same thing the directions say on the back label. they couldnt even tell what is the best nutes to start with. that go right to the highest price stuff for profit. house and garden, humbolt, right off the bat. when there are cheaper products that are much better and easier to use and understand

Where I'm from you don't go to your local hydro store with a car tagged to your own house/grow, etc. A regular garden store is different. but, if it's starting to feel like they know you, then you might want to have some (made up) answers ready to questions they might ask about what you are growing, etc.

yeah its not like a hydro store, just a general garden store the only one in town.they have none of the pricey nutes thats actually used for our plants but ive learned with the help of you guys how to mix my own nutes.thats why i love this store.they have all the very basic nutrients and thats all i need to make my own feed for my plants.so by me asking so many questions now when i walk in they look at me like im the guy who has award winning roses or really loves tomatoes...

If I were you, I'd learn a little about tomatoes too, just in case it comes up in conversation at the store. But I'm just that way. Rather have a story ready at the tip of my tongue than be totally dumbstruck.

Better safe than sorry--especially in a small town.

Always good to err on the side of paranoid, in my experience.

Tell 'em you are into Italian cooking and you grow tomatoes and basil. If you're going into winter though, you might look funny. I am just about to buy what I think I'll need to get through until spring, so I don't raise any eyebrows when it's below freezing outside.

    Good link!

Good plan Sprite. I take that a step further by actually growing tomatoes, peppers, catnip, and other herbs right along side "our favorite plants"!

Don't forget the (not so convincing) excuse of "Oh, I'm just starting a couple veggie/flower seeds for a early jump on spring". In practice, that excuse seems to raise more questions than answers.

tell me about it.I throw in tomatoes and peppers ,it is easier to explain when it is what you have there. But for some reason the buds are like 3" thick and my tomatoes and peppers look like crap.. must have to do with priorities..
