Advice for an outdoor grow northeast of the Bay Area

Looking for advice on what variety to grow outdoors, and when to get it started.

Environment: I live in a valley in the foothills off Highway 128 between Napa and Winters at 175' elevation with a good southern exposure and reliable well water. The native soil is pretty heavy, but I can build it up as I do for veggie gardening.

Can any experienced NorCal growers recommend a variety for this environment? I will use the crop to treat pain from arthritis and a lingering injury.

And when should I plan to have it in the ground? We never have frosts after January.

    Other suggestions? TIA!

Have in ground in May....the weather is too cold until then...

    Strains that would be good:

Dream Queen....Space Queen....Green Crack....all the same just different names....

    excellent producer outdoors.

    Purple Kush....Romalian.....Blue Dream....

All are excellent....great outdoor producers and clones are available.

May, huh...seems awfully late. I am far enough east along 128 that our weather is closer to Winters' than to Napa's, and by May we're already averaging in the mid-80's. Still, I have plenty of time to figure it out.

BTW, I enjoyed reading your perpetual indoor grow thread. The idea that it'd be a year from now before I could have an outdoor yield is a bit of a downer, so maybe I'll crank up a small indoor grow to tide me over. Thanks!

i would try a small green house....the sun is free..... I was looking on ebay and green houses are pretty cheap....put some lights to get you vegged for 30 days and then a small little office heater and let the sun start them on flower.....you could get two grows in before you outdoor is ready and also you could start you outdoor in the greenhouse and then move them out....you could have a mother plant and get all your clones for outdoor also.

    good luck

    That's a really great suggestion, weeddaddy...thanks!

I have an extra twin-bulb 4' florescent fixture I could rig to hold a few mothers in veg with one cool and one warm bulb. And my house has a south-facing sunroom whose overhang was designed to allow full sun from Oct-Mar. It would be perfect for the bloom cycle! Warm, direct sun and secure.

Awesome...now I just need some clones or seeds!

A quick newbie question about temps...I see on indoor grow threads that everyone is very concerned about not letting the temp rise above about 90 degrees. Is this a factor for outdoor grows where temps can easily exceed that?
