Dear Mr. ///// redaction ///,

Thank you for contacting my office in Washington D.C. Discussing critical issues with my constituents is very important to me.
In the 111th Congress, the Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act (H.R. 2835) was introduced by Representative Barney Frank [D-MA] and is currently being reviewed by the House Committee of Energy and Commerce. The Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act allows licensed physicians within the states that have enacted medical marijuana laws to prescribe or recommend marijuana when, in the physicians' medical judgment, it is an appropriate form of treatment. The Act would also provide individuals who use or possess medical marijuana in accordance with their state law protection from federal prosecution and further interference by the Federal Government.
New Mexico was the 12th state to legalize marijuana for medical purposes to patients who qualify and the state government is granted the power of licensing producers of medical marijuana and regulating where and when it will be distributed. Although I am not a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will keep your views in mind should I have the opportunity to consider this bill on the House Floor.
Once again, thank you for expressing your opinion on this matter. Please feel free to contact any of my offices if I can assist you in any way. I am very interested in your opinions and your concerns. To find more information regarding current legislation, services I can offer, or ways my office can be helpful to you, please visit my website at: Congressman Ben Ray Lujan - Representing New Mexico's Third District in Congress.

Sincerely,
Rep. Ben Ray Luján
United States House of Representatives
