A standard HPS lamp will work OK from start to finish. You need a HPS ballast, too. A reflector would be nice, also.

How far away?...depends on size of the lamp, stage of growth, temps, etc.

DP, don't even try to help this guy out. all he does is post questions with no research on his own part what-so-ever. when i tried to correct him in the error of his ways he proceeded to call me gay.

he also thinks he's gonna grow 4 plants in a 4 square foot box, top them and yield at least an ounce from each.....all while using a giant CFL with almost 5000 lumens (because 5,000 is optimum).
