I can tell you this much, if you live in Toronto you're gonna want to start the plants indoors.

IANA expert, but I have succeeded in said subject.

take a paper towel, fold it in half a make it wet (not sloppy, but not dry). Open a CD jewel case and lay the wet paper towel from one side to the other. Put about 10 seeds in there and fold it shut so the seeds are sandwiched in between the wetness. Keep it wet for a few days and the seeds - if good - will germinate. Take a peat cup with garden soil and with a pencil eraser poke a hole about 3/4" deep into the dirt. Put the germinating seed TIP DOWN into the dirt (as in - the part of the seed that cracked open that the chute is coming out of). Cover the bitch up and let nature do it's course. of course when they get to be about a half foot you want to transplant them into a bigger pot or even the ground.

Of course you may want to do all the right fertilizer techniques, but if you're a noob, I wouldn't worry about it.

Either this or try the GROWING FORUMS.
