    first time grower advice appreciated.

the best thing you can do is let them run and chop them just before your first frost.

If you know its going to frost put a blanket or something over it till morning and this will buy you some time. Maybe a few nice afternoon sunny days.

If you are in northern virginia then 6 weeks from now will be too cold at night. You can wrap the containers they are in up in something to keep them warm and cover the plants at night. Will be difficult to get them to finish since you cant bring them in and cant wake up on time to uncover them. Good luck.
