    Card questions

I am considering getting a recommendation for MM and am wondering about a few things...
I have suffered from Chronic back pain and sciatica from a herniated disc for almost 2 decades now. However, I don't have 2 decades of medical history to show for that as I have been uninsured and self medicating legally and illegally for most of that time. I was insured for the past 2 years though and have been to Physical therapy and been prescribed Vicodin only a couple of times because my doctor refused to give out a regular monthly prescription for opiates (which I understand) so I just save those for extremely painful days. Anyway, my understanding is that the MM clinics like to see RECENT medical records showing your condition (like one year) and my Physical Therapy (which they actually gave up on me) was from as long ago as a year and a half. Is that outdated info for the clinic.
What kind of chances do I have of getting qualified for MM? and, where should I go in Portland? Does it take a long time to get your medical records sent to the clinic?
Oh, I have more questions but I'll just stop there for now.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

    CatMan,
I'm about where you are in the process. Here's what I think I understand. We only need a doctor's diagnosis, or acknowledgement of the condition we seek MMJ for within the last six months. We don't need documentation back to the onset of the condition. I believe, if you don't have a current doctor, or don't want to go through your current doctor, you can gather up your medical history yourself and take it to a doctor who focusses primarily on giving MMJ recomendations if your condition qualifies. I've even seen some commercials on tv advertising such doctors/clinics in the Portland area. Even if it's old info, gather up what you can to support your diagnosis. The doctor will probably confirm the diagnosis, and you're off and running.

I also understand that it's very helpful to join NORML, as they have local meetings that are VERY useful for networking and finding the resources we might need. Good luck.

Maybe someone who has already gone through all the hoops will chime in.

    MoMo,
Thanks for the reply. There is a clinic here that will review your records for free, then as far as I understand, they will schedule an appointment (at that point, I'm assuming they are likely to officially suggest MMJ). I guess it never hurts to try.

I have a herniated disc for 20 years. I told my doc I was sick and tired, literally, from taking prescription meds he and others prescribed me and that I had smoked before and was considering it for pain relief. He wrote me the necessary paper work and I mailed it in , with other forms you get on line and got my card.

    Thanks,

Still waiting for the medical records and the clinic to call me in. It's been 2 weeks!

That is an unusual thing. Most clinics call back sooner. Are you in Portland or an out lying area?
