this is a calyx. this is a female reproductive organ. the pistils (white hairs) are little tubes that catch pollen. once they catch pollen, it is guided to the calyx where it will fertilize the egg inside which creates a seed and keeps the lineage going. the seed grows right there inside of the calyx and it splits open once the seed is ripe.
