a Brief Shining Moment?

Seriously, whether you like Obama's politics or not you have to admit he has been the best thing to happen to the Medical Cannabis scene, at least in terms of how the feds relate to this stuff.
Let's face it, no one is better at blowing elections than the Democrats, and at some point we will almost certainly see a Republican, or even a 'Centrist Democrat' who is not so lenient in his policy towards MMJ.
It would really, REALLY suck if 2, 6, or 10 years from now the Feds made a strong effort to fight all of this and roll back the progress that has been made. Can't happen, you say? Hell, in the late 70's I thought for sure pot would be completely legal soon. Then the Reganistas came to power, Just Say No Nancy and the rest of them managed to create a conflagration of pot with DRUGS (implying Cocaine, Heroin, Addiction, Death...) and it all pretty much stalled throughout the 80s and 90s.
I really hope I see pot, hemp, all of it 100% legal (actually, I'd prefer 100% decriminalization of all drugs, but that's not likely to happen) within my lifetime; and unless I pass 100 years I'm already more than half through).
What I'd like to see happen - California legalizes pot, the rest of the states follow, some due to an actual understanding that it simply should not be illegal and some due to fiscal concerns (all of that tax money will be too tempting in the midst of a fiscal crisis) Eventually the idea that it could be forbidden just becomes an absurdity within the public's consciousness.
What I'm afraid may happen - the Dems blow it, some reactionary asshole decides to put an end to it all, the Feds start to jack around anyone and everyone they possibly can (with our tax money), coming down really hard to prove a point. At that point maybe someone manages to get a case all the way to the Supreme Court and maybe all the shit comes to an end finally, but maybe not. Maybe they just continue to screw us from behind without lube for a few more decades. I hope not, but worse shit happens.
Well, what do you think? Are we on the verge of a massive and permanent change with regards to Marijuana and the law, or could we be enjoying a 'brief shining moment'?bikeTripper Reviewed by bikeTripper on . a Brief Shining Moment? Was in w one of the lawyers a while ago & his take was that since the Fed had provided a letter that essentially expressed consent for State medical laws, any State that would experience loss due to another Fed policy change would also have legal cause to file against the Fed... to stop/challenge any future alterations from the existing policy position.
Dunno, but it would seem that since a taxable system will be in place & operating by the time a new admin comes in... there would be a murky legal situation created if they went old school & sent the storm troopers in...???

I love me some Chapelle but this thread is really important so I'm bumping it.
I have always taken a "live and let vote" policy and kept my prosthelytizing to a minimum but as elections get closer, Southwest Alternative Care will be encouraging our patients to vote for candidates that are either neutral (at worst) or better yet, supportive of medical cannabis.
Politicians listen to votes and money. That's really it. If you want cannabis to remain legal, it's absolutely vital that your voice and your vote be heard.

One thing that has been a positive in our neighborhood is community outreach. We constantly pick up trash, engage our neighbors in conversation, hire local services (electrical, plumbing, security, etc) and try to be a resource for accurate information. It's not necessarily on a grand scale but keep in mind, since 1980, Colorado has backed the winner in the White House all but one time. In other words, whoever wins CO almost always wins. Our votes, and our patient votes matter.
