this is bad advice. Plants dont go hermaphrodite from stress in the vegetative part of growth. This is when you can stress the fuck out of them and mold them to your liking. I've used LST, Super cropping, FIM, and ive topped plants and as long as you dont do it in flower, you shouldnt develop hermies. That happens when you fuck with the plant in flower. They get pretty picky when they recieve light leaks into the garden so Make sure that you have the grow area totally sealed off from outside light
