way to get More flowers

Does topping and fimming promote more flower growth? or just create more limbs for the flowers to grow from?

I did a FIM on a bushy grape ape I just harvested. worked WONDERS. my plant was under 24" when done, but yielded over an oz dry. main cola had 4 tops...it was like a fist of beauty.
