Starting new DWC need a little advice

Hey everyone, I'm starting a new DWC grow... I have a 5 gal res full of nice clean water all distilled... I have a bean sprouting right now so i need advice asap so i dont kill this plant like the last one... For the medium I'm using rubber mulch&packing peanuts... got the seed started in paper towel and placed inside a peanut they're the kind shaped like an 8 and u can poke a hole in them and they're KINDA like rockwool... but anyways i have 3 air stones... 2 pumps... a 5 and 10 dollar one, res is light proof its mylared to hell and back for lights i'm gonna use CFLS for the first 2 weeks and whenever it seems to be doin good i'm gonna put my 90 watt dual band UFO on it for shits and gigs to see if I can get some use out of that thing... I'm using melted bagged ice as my water source do i still need calmag???

You say you are using distilled water, that means it has no nutrients, and the ph is "neutral" which is a PH of 7. That ph needs to be give or take in the region of 5.5
I have never heard of anyone using packing peanuts as a medium, so I can't really comment on that... but I would use a proven method instead of experimenting with something like that.

Your setup sounds good with the exception of the foam/peanut, never seen that before so that might be your weak link. As far as cal mag and melted ice as water source you just need to get a meter and check PH and PPM and go from there. I have used distilled water for my seeds and used cal mag once the little leaves start yellowing a little bit. And like he said, get the PH down on distilled water. Good luck

You say you are using distilled water, that means it has no nutrients, and the ph is "neutral" which is a PH of 7. That ph needs to be give or take in the region of 5.5
I have never heard of anyone using packing peanuts as a medium, so I can't really comment on that... but I would use a proven method instead of experimenting with something like that.

Well I looked around for rapid rooters and rockwool but all the stores say they only stock them in spring so i felt like a dumbass pothead and left lol
So its either packing peanuts or marbles...
I used ph down and got it to 5.7

Lava rocks work well too get them at lowes or home depot. Tell them you need em for the grill.
They are very porous.
But then you will get algae.

If your question is what nutes to use when they are young ones from seeds then I would say NONE, just use distilled water and then cal mag like said earlier. Do not use nutes when they are young ones, you will not like the results.

If your question is what nutes to use during veg and flower.... take your pick from what guys suggest.

I know that... i'm kind of preparing for when they need the nutes, know what i mean? i just wanna find out what i need before i need it but its too late my beans sprouted so i'm just gonna do a test w/ miracle grow all purpose until i get better seeds& nutes
