Here is what I got!!! 3 white widow seeds planted on Aug 12. Controled temp at 75-80 degrees. 400 watt HPS light on 16/8 with a timer. sounds all great and fine except, the plants are almost a month old are only about 2 inches tall??? Is this normal, when will they start to grow? I have repotted them into a 3 gal pot after about two weeks in a solo cup. The roots were long and reaching the sides of the cup. I water when the top of the soil is crusty and dry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am kinda experimenting this time and gonna get serious next time if I can figure it out!!!!

Other facts: Grow room is 8x12 storage building. Very clean. Insulated and cooled. Light is 2' away from the plants. Have not added any nutrients to the water or soil yet. I sing to them, talk to them, leave music on for them!!!!

    Classical, or rock?

Just kidding. Copy-n-paste the appropriate troubleshooting form here, and answer as much as you can. The link is in my signature.

Pictures would help, but what size container are they in? (each in it's own pot, right?)

    Plants don't have ears.

    Rusty!
Do you ever watch the discovery channel? Mythbusters in particular...

They had an episode that really peaked my interest. They set up greenhouses on top of their building and did some experiments with plants and music/talking.

Sounds crazy but the plants that listened to classical masterpieces and positive talking to from people actually did way better than the plants they played fast metal and screamed negative things at it.

They based the experiment on someone elses theories and experiements but I cant remember the name.

Very strange and interesting if you ask me!

I saw it and was underimpressed with their whole "Plants have feelings too" episode. IMHO, they should really consult a botanist before trying their plant experiments. Are they true results, or just an inability to provide for the plants needs consistently? ("Jamie...didn't you water these...") Can't really tell with amateurs running the show.

Not that the experiments aren't cool, but for example...the Bamboo Torture test, when they set-up a 'greenhouse' on the roof (in the summer) to see if the bamboo would penetrate a human body. The greenhouse was a sealed plastic enclosure, no ventilation, and generally unattended to. Plus, when was the last time you saw a clear human? (ballistic gel analog) A human body would block the light during that early growth, and might or might not have been capable of the oomph necessary to push through. Likely possible, but twas an error in their approach. Would love to have seen another body (side by side) at least with a sweatshirt or something to block all photosynthesis.

Then there was the "flinging a diseased body over a castle wall" experiments...Killed bunches of trees, but never once did they think of flinging human parts or midgets, which everyone knows are smaller, lightweight, and more flingable for distance and accuracy. :wtf:

    Oh well.

Well well.... A mythbusters regular I see. Cant believe you remembered quotes! Impressive lol.

I thought their experiments with the plants had enough results to merit a more controlled and professional test like you mentioned.

    .
Are you volunteering to run a new experiment?? lol

Oh ya... wheres those poker face shots???

EDIT: You should email them and mention the light penetrating the gel and botanist help for the other.

What is your experience level? (first timer, novice, experienced...)
    first time

    Your Equipment:
.1) Type and wattage of lights. (MH, HPS, CFL's, tube fluorescents, LED's) using HPS lights
    .2) Distance from tops? 24"
.3) Reflector type? (cool tube set-up, bat wing, enclosed reflector, bare bulb...) enclosed reflector, looks like a tent
.4) Is there a consistent fresh air supply?yes
.5) Do you have an exhaust fan and a circulation fan? no
.6) What are the bulb wattages, kelvin ratings, and schedule? wattage is 400, schedule is on from 6 am to midnight

    Your medium:
.7) Specific brand and type of soil, (coco, peat based soilless...) and anything you've added to it. (vermiculite, perlite, worm castings...) cnat remember the brand name. It was cheap from big lots?? I know it is not the best but found that out after I planted
    .8) Size of container.3 gallon
.9) Did you use peat pucks (or similar) to root clones or germinate seedlings? I germinated seeds in a shot glass, in the dark for 30 hours

Your nutrients and water: Tap water is all of this I know the answer to. Some one told me to try tomatoe plants first and I got them to about 18 inches tall. Never checked the ph level. I do however leave it in a bucket instead of using it right out of the tap. I have not fed them ever. I water when the top of the soil is dry and crusty and then I stick my finger in the soil and I can feel it wet, I wait another day. Ussually is about 3 to 4 days between waterings
    10) Source of water? (tap, bottled or filtered) What's it's ph before adjusting?
    11) Method of checking water ph. (ph pen, test strips, aquarium test kit...)
    12) Method of adjusting water ph. (phosphoric acid, white vinegar, hydrated lime, PH Up...)
    13) Specific brand and N-P-K ratio for each bottle. List dosages (quantity per gallon) and current feeding schedule.
    14) How often are you watering between feedings, and how much per watering?
    15) Any additives or tea's? (Superthrive, CalMag, molasses, Mother's Earth...)
    16) Are your ph levels stable, or do they fluctuate?
    17) What is your ingoing water's ph? ...your runoff ph?
    18) Do you foliar feed? If so, with what, how often, and at what time do you spray?

    Your growroom:
    19) Indoors or outdoors? Indoors
    20) What size of closet, room or hut? 8'x12' storage building
    21) What are the temps and humidity levels while lights are on? ...With lights off? when on the room is around 75 and about 82 under the lights. when off about 65 to 70. humidity is around 50
    22) Have you seen signs of insects in the growroom? flys only

    Your strain:
    23) What strain are you growing? (Indica dominate or Sativa dom?) Indica dominant, white widow
    24) From seeds or clones? seeds
    25) Is this an autoflower strain? not sure

I had no idea it could be this complex. I thought I would give it a shot and see if I could get me some smoke then it would be good. Its getting expensive round here. I definately am not trying to get rich,,,,just wnat some smoke to call my own. PLEASE HELP!!!

Growing indoor can definitely be overwhelming the first time if you arent 110% prepared (who ever was on their first try?).

It would be smart to invest in a PH pen and a ph adjustment kit meant for gardening. Also you will need circulation fans and an exhaust fan. Dont forget about nutrients.

    Do you have any pictures?

Your temps and humidity are fine. Without an exhaust fan how do you provide them with fresh air? Also it would help to know exactly what kind of soil you used.

Your problem is most likely a combination of things. Not providing them with "new" air, crappy soil, and no food.

    pics pics pics!!

By the way white widow is not an auto flowering strain.

the soil is called black widow???? I will get the ph stuff. what kind of food do i need to get? Also, what about insecticides? I do not have any yet but i would like to be ready in case.

I have put a fan in the room oscilating. I still do not have an exhaust fan but the room is my storage shed and there is a dog house built in the shed that has open windows that will let air out. The air conditioner is bringing in fresh air from out side.

I really appreciate your help, I lay awake at night wondering if I will have my own smoke for christmas!!!!

Here is a pic of the best looking one. The other two are just a bit smaller. This one is about 1.5 inches tall and about as big around as a quarter. They were germinated and then put in soil on august 12th so tomorrow is one month. how big should they be by now?

Well there are alot of different types of food you can get. I use the fox farms 3part nutrient system and it works great for me. When I was very tight on money I used miracle grow grow and bloom nutes. Not the best but works fine.

Black Magic makes a few different types of soil. Can you be more specific? From the looks of it in the picture it has very little perlite and a ton of what looks to be pine bark mulch. That stuff can mess with the PH of your medium and cause problems. What type of containers are they planted in?

They should be much larger and ready to be flowered after 1 month. To be honest, I would scrap those ones you got going. Go find yourself some better soil like fox farms ocean forest or even some regular Scotts potting mix or miracle grow potting mix. It also helps to get some more perlite to mix in if you go with scotts or MG. Dont worry too much about scrapping them. In the right conditions you will have the same amount of growth in a day or two.

Also start them in a small container like a solid color (not clear) dixie type cup. Make sure you punch holes on the bottom for drainage. Then progressively transplant into bigger pots as they get older.

If you start over with some better materials and read these forums until your eyes bleed, then theres no reason you wont have x-mas bud or even sooner!

They key is to read, read, and read some more.
