Hi clo, they look very healthy and getting a filter was all you needed, your space is small so it's easier to deal with the climate including smell. As for flowering, the sooner you get them in 12/12 the better, they will grow bigger regardless, also try to get your lights as low to the canopy as you can without affecting them, it's harder with a HID but this helps to keep em smaller. I personally put plants into flower at as little as 10-14 days from germinated seed/clone sometimes, never had problems and even had Sativas finishing flower at 3ft this way.
