Illegal to be a patient and caregiver too now?!?! Westword article
Medical marijuana patients may have to find new caregivers because of language in new law - Denver News - The Latest Word
this is crazy!!!
"According to health department spokesman Mark Salley, "the language that you can't be a patient and a caregiver, too, does represent a change from the past." As a result, "if someone is a patient and something comes through for them identifying that patient as a caregiver, the application would be denied. Or if someone is already on the registry as a caregiver and the completed application came through for them as a patient, and they were already listed as someone's caregiver, then that caregiver relationship would have to cease.Kartel Reviewed by Kartel on . Illegal to be a patient and caregiver too now?!?! Westword article
I think that is just bad reporting. What it says is you can't assign a caregiver and be a caregiver. They even quote the law in the beginning of the article.
"A patient who has designated a primary caregiver for himself or herself may not be designated as a primary caregiver for another patient."

Illegal to be a patient and caregiver too now?!?! Westword article
The article (and the language of the law) is saying you cant be a caregiver for someone and turn around and list that person as your caregiver. This Mark Salley from the Health Dept is living in his own reality.

Illegal to be a patient and caregiver too now?!?! Westword article
Now I'm totally confused. So if I'm a caregiver for let's say two patients and I list a completely different person as my caregiver, I'm all of a sudden illegal? What if my fan gives out and my plants get torched, are we then forced to go to a dispenciary and pay out the wazoo for our meds before I can get back on line? I thought it all had to do with plant count, if you stay under the 6 per between the lot of you your fine. Also, if they are rejecting applications for this and they have cashed my check can they still reject my application? It seems to me the powers that be have sided with the big money and are pushing everyone to the rip-off store down the block...pathetic.

I think their intent was that if you are sick enough to require the services of a caregiver you shouldn't be able to grow for somebody else.
So if you list a caregiver you can't grow for somebody else.
If you are a patient with no caregiver designation, then you can grow for 5 other patients and yourself I believe.

Illegal to be a patient and caregiver too now?!?! Westword article
Crap! I know there are forms to change your caregiver but what about dropping your caregiver? I always thought you just pulled the 6 plants and that was that. Can you grow for yourself AND have a caregiver? I guess it's a mute point if Denver decides to ban the whole caregiver thing anyway.

Illegal to be a patient and caregiver too now?!?! Westword article
the article is wrong.
IF you are a caregiver, then you may not have a caregiver.
A caregiver may most certainly also be a patient.Colorado patient grower. :rambohead:

Illegal to be a patient and caregiver too now?!?! Westword article
The article is really twisting things or the Dept of Health spokesperson is twisting things...
It's pretty simple if you are a caregiver, you can't have a caregiver.
It's completely understandable the logic - if you assigned a caregiver that must mean you can't care for yourself, so how in the world are you going to be able to care for someone else if you can't care for yourself.
But you can be a patient & a caregiver for someone else (that person though can't be caregiver for someone else...see above)
How is that difficult to understand?

caregivers often had caregivers. I *had* one who was an experienced grower. He helped me, provided me with genetics and answered questions. lots of different kinds of care.
