my version of bud butter
Hi all. my husband suffers from major back and neck pain and we wanted an alternative to smoking, so i looked into butter to make brownies and the like. i am also researching making oils for lotions. i found a great recipe for butter on the internet and a great one for making olive oil infused with mj. they were closely related but the oil did not use ever clear and the butter did not use water. i kinda mixed the two as the first butter i make he told me tasted bad. i read somewhere that the stuff that make it taste bad is water soluble while the active ingredient are oil/fat soluble. so what i did with the butter was added twice as much water to the mix when i cooked it. i cooked it on low in the crock pot for 18 hours. then strained it into a container and put it into the freezer. once the water was frozen i was able to pull off the butter easily. he said the brownies with the new butter mixture tasted way better with the same pain relief effects. i still need to make the lotion with the oil i'll let you all know how that goes once we test it out. here is the two youtube links for the two recipes i used butter = YouTube - Medical Marijuana Cooking 101 and olive oil = YouTube - Cannabis Olive Oil Recipe by Doctor Diane . also with the olive oil i added a shot of ever clear to the cook and cooked it just like the butter for just as long.

I've been experimenting with edibles myself. I don't care for the strong taste of the cannabis in my "goodies" and believe my time is well spent using Stinky's recipe. Look it up on this site, it's a sticky. Essentially pulls out all the water soluable impurities in the cannabis and much of the chlorophyll that makes it taste so strong. It's pretty much the same idea as you have done except you pour off the water once the butter sets in the fridge and add more back in and heat it all up again. This is done twice after the plant material has been removed. Might sound like a lot to do, but the cannabis taste is pretty subtle in the edibles. I use 1 oz to about 1.25 cups of butter and about the same volume of RO or distilled water.
Just made a batch of chocolate chip cookies with a cup of "budbutter" and am amazed at the effect of just one cookie! Perfect for chemo days, and checking out for several hours. Ended up freezing individual scoops to save and bake as needed. (Probably could use half cannabutter, half plain butter for the next batch.)
I'm curious about the lotion you want to try to make for your husband. Would this be rubbed on his back for pain relief? I never thought about using cannabis as a topical treatment for localized pain. Very interesting... I've made herbal oils for healing the skin using olive oil, sweet almond oil, and a poultice using castor oil. Can't imagine cannabis would be much different. Go for it!

my version of bud butter
hi mo, so i made the lotion but i did not have alot of material so it was not very strong. he rubbed it on his wrist and said it took affect in ~ 5 mins it was very localized pain relief and he did not notice a head effect at all. it seems to last ~ hour maybe more. the only problem he had with it is he then noticed the other muscle pains he didnt realize were hurting.
the lotion recipe i used was
18 oz. Distilled Water
1.2 oz. Shea Butter
1.7 oz. cannabis infused grape seed Oil
1 oz. sweet almond Oil
1.2 oz. Emulsifying Wax
1 oz. Stearic Acid
.2 oz. gremell II
.1 oz. Fragrance
a good tutorial on lotion making is here

Karnee,
I am very intrigued by this. I'm going to think on which other herbs might be a good compliment to add. Maybe something to help with inflammation, too. I just love the fact we can do for ourselves. Anyway, another thought is to apply dmso to the skin first, then apply the mmj lotion. I might want to make a bare bones topical since the dmso wants to help draw everything deep in the tissue. Anyway ore ideas to kick around. Keep experimenting!

hi again mo. when i get more material to make some more lotion i am going to infuse the mmj into emu oil instead of the grape seed oil as people list one of the properties of emu oil is that it penetrates the skin and goes deeper more readily.
