If pot is legalized, California's health will suffer
...Or so says a Stanford professor.
If pot becomes legal, California's health will suffer, Stanford expert says
You may support Californiaâ??s Proposition 19, the Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010, because you think the war on drugs unfairly targets minorities. You may be in favor of it because you think it's up to you, not the government, to decide what substances you'd like to consume as long as you don't harm others. Or you may be sympathetic to the ballot measure based on the testimonials of patients with cancer or AIDS who swear that medical marijuana helps them cope with their illness.
But if pot is made legal, what would that mean for public health in the Golden State? Nothing good, says Keith Humphreys, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral medicine at the Stanford School of Medicine.

While I have respect for those with higher educations than myself, I must point out the logical fallacy of having what amounts to a MENTAL DOCTOR trying to discuss something that should be a biochemist's job to describe.
In other words, it sounds like a scare tactic. This is a common thing to do - have one expert in one field talk about another field as if he were qualified to do so.
Doing a little research on Mr. Humphreys, I find no deeply involved biochemical background, but loads of psychological and psychiatric credentials. Therefore, I would simply nod my head and keep walking.

If he were any kind of a GOOD doctor then he should have read the studies from Portugal and the Netherlands and how AFTER legalization, drug usage went down. No detectable increases in health issues related to drugs. It's just an opinion on his part. He got DRUNK one night and decided THIS IS TRUE!
What a moron.

& a couple months back , I caught a documentary on the History channel saying at the time pot-prohibition began, America was still in the Great Depression era, where some knew of the value, Cannabis was potentially worth... these few folks in high places, didn't want "Mexicans" to get rich from their farm land, thus the nickname 'marijuana' came about, not too mention the horrendous movie reefer madness, which depicted minorities being 'stoned' creating all sorts of mischief.
from what I've read, Americans were all about toking up, and enjoying the benefits the Cannabis plant brought our people and nation, but were tricked into voting 'marijuana' illegal, because they had no idea hemp and 'marijuana' were the same plant.
