Quick question about obtaining medical cannabis
My husband and I will be moving to Colorado soon. He does not want to grow his own meds. He just wants to be able to go to a dispensary and obtain his meds. However, he'd like to shop around before he does this. Does he need to choose a caregiver before he gets the card or can he shop around first?
If this allowed under the new rules? It's all so confusing.
Also, how long will he need to be a resident to obtain a card? He clearly qualifies, he has ms and suffers horrible spasms.

Quick question about obtaining medical cannabis
You can get a card immediately. All you need is proof of residency, which can take many forms and is obtainable immediately when you move.
Your husband can shop at any medical marijuana center, whether or not you name a caregiver or a primary center. I don't see any reason to shop around before your husband gets his card. I think most people get their cards first and then shop around until they find a MMC or a caregiver they like. Also, patients can purchase from any or all sources, not only his caregiver, if he assigns one. If a center employee or caregiver tells him otherwise, stay away from them!

Quick question about obtaining medical cannabis
Well you can apply immediately but expect to wait a few months before you actually get your card. Before mailing out your application & doctor recommendation, make a couple copies. Those copies are going to be what you use in dispensaries/etc...
I would recommend NOT assigning a caregiver, at least not at first. You can always assign one later if you find a place/someone you really like.
Also make sure you have copies of your medical records to bring with you to your doctor's appointment. The doctors are getting stricter with requiring them. It sounds like your husband will definitely qualify, but just cover your bases and bring in copies of his records & current meds.

Quick question about obtaining medical cannabis
Thank you so much! Great advice and very much appreciated! Yea, hubby is a quad with ms so I don't think he'll have any issues. He is a vet so he'll have to see a civilian doctor but his records are filled with him using medical cannabis and reducing many of his meds because of it. He went from 55 pills a day to now 27 a day. How awesome is that? Here in Illinois we can't get these reps to understand the benefit, so conservative. :wtf:

I wish you and hubby the absolute best in Co.

Quick question about obtaining medical cannabis
While the vast majority of caregivers in Colorado will claim to be 'for the patient', nearly zero caregivers are actually non-profit.

It's very difficult moving forward, for caregivers to have large scale grows. When you get your Colorado MMJ card, have your husband request an 'edible' recommendation, which is a recommendation from the Colorado Dept. of Health stating you can have more than the 6plant/2oz max stated under Amendment 20. Once you have your increased plant reco, then you shop your patient rights (increased plant count) to the type of caregiver you need.
Moving forward, caregivers are capped at 5 patients. They will likely prefer 5 patients who have increased plant counts (up to 99? I'm not sure) instead of regular 6plant patients. But, caregivers who are non-profit and actually taking care of sick people instead of potheads probably won't care about plant count.
I guess my point is, be careful, contact someone like copobo. I don't know him/her, but he seems like a legit contact, or at least someone who knows people who can take care of a legit patient.
Thanks to your hubby for serving, good luck.
edit: I'm sure people will be quick to point out if I am in-accurate. I don't stand behind anything I say. Things are changing by the day, so if I am wrong, I would hope to be corrected, for your sake.

Stories such as yours bring a tear to my eye. Your husband has given SO MUCH and asks so little. WTF is WRONG with our society?
When are you coming? Please let folks know. Your husband shouldn't have to BUY meds from the dispensary!
nope. Ugh ugh. No way. That just wouldn't be right, IMO.
