Don't stress about you mother plant. If she has a significant, mature root system, you could cut her all the way to the very bottom of the stock as long as a few nodes are left. I take MANY clones off mine (like 8 to 10) at a time and she has never showed stress. Just make sure she is in a good environment (no heat/cold or nute stress) and she'll be fine.

I already have it in LST, and the top of the main stem keeps growing up and up into the light, and i am forced to keep pulling it down.
