    Life insurance/Oral testing

My husband and I just went to sign up for life insurance today and I was completely unaware that they were going to test us for drugs as well as nicotine. The agent told me that they were going to take an oral swab to test for nicotine, and we had already admitted that he was a smoker. So I asked, "if we already admitted that he smokes cigarettes, why do we need to take this test?" And of course, that's when she finally admitted they were testing for drugs as well. I almost smacked myself. We had just smoked a joint about 12 hours previous. This morning my husband had a bottle of beer, brushed his teeth and had about 3 cigs on the drive to the agency. I'm hoping if they pick up on it, we can play it off as a false positive and get retested.

I'm horrified that we are going to lose our life insurance policies. If anyone has any information on how accurate oral/saliva tests are or a similar story, I would really appreciate any advice.

Swab tests have a detection window of 24-48 hours on average, but can also go back as far as 96 hours and yes they accurate in that time frame.
