    What's to stop the pharmaceuticals?

    Hey Everyone

I've been watching the CA marijuana news and noticed the article below. I realize that my question assumes some really wonderful developments in our state as far as having enough producer non-profits for this to make a major impact but...My question is, if New Mexico were to legalize marijuana, can large corporations/pharmaceuticals come in and take over production of marijuana? Are our local growers protected from this happening because they are non-profits?

Oakland bill to tax pot growers gets 1st airing

OAKLAND, Calif.â??Legislation that would allow four commercial medical marijuana-growing operations in Oakland is getting its first public airing.
The city council's Public Safety Committee is scheduled to consider the measure Tuesday night. If approved by the full council, Oakland would be the first city in the nation to license wholesale pot cultivation.
Council members Larry Reid and Rebecca Kaplan say they're sponsoring the bill to reduce the fire danger associated with marijuana grows in homes and unregulated warehouses.
They also see it as a way to bring more revenue into the city. They estimate that the facilities could generate between $3 million and $38 million a year for the city.
Some growers are opposing the plan, saying it would put them out of business.

"can large corporations/pharmaceuticals come in and take over production of marijuana?"

They can try but I've got far deeper genetic resources regarding cannabis than Monsanto could ever dream of. I could literally flood and destroy the market with genetics in less than a month. Just a side benefit of having access to every wild strain of cannabis known to man.

We'll be lucky to keep our medical marijuana program if Susana Martinez makes Governor. I think worrying about pharmaceutical companies and legalization is too far down the road to worry about it now. First of all, The feds will never allow this no matter what San Diego approves. Second of all, California has to pass prop. 19 before the rest of the nation will ever consider legalization. Corporate money and a well funded anti-drug campaigns are flooding California right now. Media stories are looking for any reason to link crime with marijuana consumption no matter how ridiculous. There is a very nasty smear campaign going on all around the nation.

We're in for a long hard road folks. We could very well be living in a non-medical marijuana state if we're not careful.

While I also question khyberkitsune's claim as to the stock in his possession, I suspect he has a respectable collection. And he does seem to possess substantial knowledge as it relates to lighting/lighting equipment.

I do agree with khbyer that big pharma is going to have a hard time getting control of this one under legalization. We're all way too familiar with what big corp has done with tobacco.

Show me a big pharmacy company willing to risk federal prosecution byforming a not-for-profit corporation that is limited to only 95 plants in production and I'll show you a company that doesn't care about share holders or profits.... There is no such thing!:wtf:
