Kinda hard to tell, but are there any pistils (hairs) sticking out of the 'dots'?
If so, they might be seeds forming. If no hairs sticking out of 'em, I'm afraid Washougal is likely right. If they are nanners, they'll be opening soon. Look for pictures of nanners, and see if there is a similarity.
If they are seeds, they usually look like a swollen calyx with a lighter-colored 'racing stripe' down the side of it.
If they are seeds, you'll want to find the source of the pollen that created 'em.

If you turn-off the fans and place the camera on something solid (to steady the camera) you'll likely get a cleaner picture. Against a wall, on some milk crates or on a counter...

Bummer about the chewing the nails problem. Makes it awfully hard to pick your nose, doesn't it...?
