    Canada or Oxford

    hey guys

long story short im a university student in melbourne australia, im going to be doing a foreign exchange program next year (im hoping for 6 months to a year) and ive got a few universities to choose from.

My university has given me a list of the other universities and colleges that i can apply for, im narrowing my search down to the following and just need some advice on the pot situation

Oxford, England... mostly coz i always wanted to go there, but does anyone know about the weed situation, is it easy to obtain and are the cops hard on it?

the other colleges are in canada, but my geog sucks so i dont really know where in canada they are, im looking to go somewhere in or near BC, and if there are any comments on the weed situation in canada, i know its got a semi legal status and i do like the idea of walking into a medical club and picking out strains i like, anyone know how hard it is to get a licence and if they allow non citizens to get them?
    Ryerson university
    University of Alberta
    Concordia University
    University of Waterloo

okay thats me in a nutshell

but i just did a bit of reading and i think my university pulled the old bait and switch, turns out its not the University of Oxford, its Oxford Brookes university, im guessing the two are close to each other and are the same in terms of partying, which sounds fun

i guess my main concern is im a daily smoker (about a quarter a week to a fortnight), so i guess what i really need to know is how much would that cost at oxford, how easy would the habit be to keep and whatd happen if i got busted?
and would it be easier/cheaper in canada? (im not basing my choice entirely on this, but i gotta take it into account)

the main appeal to canada is the fact that they actually have weed stores, but i guess if i go to oxford i can jump on a train to amsterdam for the occaisional long weekend (my geography sucks, so someone correct me if im wrong about that)

    Well..here's some co-ordinates

    concordia - montreal, quebec, canada.
    ryerson - toronto, ontario, canada
u of waterloo - waterloo(apt enough, right?) ontario canada
u of alberta - edmonton, alberta, canada

So first off, none are in BC, and the closest to BC that you have is alberta. The next province. not exactly close, but not too far.

The next three are on the opposite side of the country completely. As in, you'll be driving five days to get from BC to any of these. I'll save the fun task of looking at a map of canada for you..I suggest that be your next step.

Anyways, Toronto is close to Waterloo - about 45 mins apart, depending on where you are in Toronto..it is huge. And Concordia is in Montreal, which is like 7 hours from Toronto, again in another province.
**by the way, you should know that Quebec speaks French..a lot. Montreal is a very bilingual town, but still, Quebec is French and you'd have to know at least some to get by elsewhere in the province.

As for your herb questions..the price varies a lot depending where you are. In Toronto, people will pay $80 for a quarter, whereas in Montreal or eastern Ontario, you'll pay $50. Ounces go for 160-180 in eastern ontario, and in toronto its well over 200.

In Canada, Marijauna is illegal. Nowhere is it legal. UNLESS you use it for medicinal purposes, but the rules are quite strict - like terminal illness strict. At least to smoke. I have heard of docs prescribing THC pills to some less serious patients, however it isn't anywhere like California where if you get headaches...sometimes...then you can have a license somewhere.

As for smoking and buying, it flourishes in Canada. Its not like you need it to be legal. Its everywhere. It might as well be legal, except our Prime Minister is an absolute ass, and personal freedoms aren't his thing, though he was elected by saying they were. sorry, can't hide my disdain. Back to the point..it's illegal, however its extremely common and many people smoke it. You'd only be going to jail if you were running a mass op. A couple plants can be grown using the same common sense you'd use anywhere.

Anyways I hope this helped you!

i dont live anywhere near Oxford but i would think it's the same as most places in England, very easy to get green, if you get caught with it by the police,if it's only a small amount at worst you will be given a caution there and then and wont be taken to the police station. my daughter is at southampton university and even though she doesn't smoke she says theres plenty of people who do and they are very open about it as the law is quite relaxed about it.i'm not to sure on street prices as i get from friends who grow but i think the price ranges between £20-£25 an 1/8 or kids deals £10 a gram, i'm sure someone will put me right if i'm wrong. have a great time where ever you go
