Is there any type that is better than others or "the best", whatever you want to call it :stoned:

My outdoor ladies started to flower and I'm looking at taking off one of the larger bottom branches to clone. Does it still work the same way as if you were taking a very small cutting from the plant? Should I even take a larger bottom branches off to try and clone? I'm in in the mid-west UNITED STATES at latitude 45

Help would be MUCH appreciated.

The lowest cuttings you want to take would be from the bottom of the plant since that is where more of the plants rooting hormones are located. You do not need rooting hormone, I successfully did 2 out of 2 clones without it with great success, read the last page on my grow log, it pretty much covers everything you need to do, I left out the part about being careful not to break the new roots off, when they get long enough then you can gently put them in moist soil.

I think your talking about fan leaves here. Fan leaves will not clone to the best of my knowledge. The architecture of a soon to be cut clone will be about 3" high in the form of a "Y". Trim off all lower leaves and leave all the small top growth. I also usually trim back a lot of the bigger top leaves as well as I have found that the clone needs very little leaves to start rooting. The more leaves it has the more work the clone will have to put into attempting to keep those leafs alive, instead of just rooting like it should. Take a look around on Google and look at the shape of their clones. You start off with that, not grow to that. This means you don't try clones with single leaves, branches with only one leaf, that sort of thing. Look for the v notches at the ends of your branches and from there go back about 4" to find the locations of your cuts.

Didn't mean the fan leaves, just the large branches that grow right off the main trunk of the plant. But your answer was helpful, got them done, I'm just waiting to see what happens.

I mean other than come sort of contamination getting into the jar. Supposings one were to always remove the jell from the jar, never dip into the jar, and discarded the dipped jell so at not to put it back into the jar.

Can jells "go bad" after a couple or several months?

Well my clones have definitely survived, they just arent growing very fast... i think its been a couple weeks since i did the cuts. How long does growing roots take?

When I changed to rapid rooter plugs, some show roots through the outside of the plugs in 10 days, most in 2 weeks, and the rest a couple/three days later.

Note that when some folks say "they root in 4 days" what they actually mean is very tiny short roots, they don't necessarily mean all the way out and through the plug/cube/puck/etc. That's why these bubble cloners can boast "roots in 3 days", it's not a level measurement because the plugs may be rooting too but you can't see inside the plug until they grow all the way an inch or so out of the plug.

I use a bubbler system for my clones and I do use Hydrogyzeme??? as part of the water treatment. I think it makes a huge difference. When I put my shoots in the water they can sit there for days without reaction. Just as soon as I put that hydrogyzeme in there the roots take hold big time. 3 days is usually enough additional time once I start to see roots forming. I continue to use the same stuff after I take them out of the bubbler. I use it for the first couple weeks of veg. It doesn't take but a couple weeks I figure to seriously root ball the plant which is what I want. After the first couple weeks the plant has more then enough roots to get a huge jump start on the rest of it's cycle. Not cheap stuff though...about $40 per liter I think.
