Put steel wool around the stems to keep snail off and clear all under brush and weeds away from your plants. This will help a lot and when it rains, hit the ferts good to get your plant up and healthy and then the bugs will leave them alone. This worked for me and giving the nitrogen helps to get them up and healthy.
