Six more medicinal pot growers approved

Hi all. Much respect.

I saw in another post that out-of-state folks make some of ya skiddish. I'm a CO patient/live in CO but I own a home in NM that my son (waiting for his card to arrive in the mail @ present) lives in while he attends school... so I hope I don't freakya out to badly. LOL.

Things in our states are certainly different when it comes to MMJ. I've been a patient here for 6 years+....long before the throngs (I was #700 in state) of folks jumped on the bandwagon starting last summer. Crazy, crazy stuff.

My point for posting is merely to ask WHY more folks aren't growing their own in NM and are WAITING and WAITING to be charged what amounts to street pricies for weed....>IF< you can get it ??????? Our dispensary system sucks...much like your does/will as they create their monopoly...but @ least there's weed to be had >>IF<< yer into paying for such a thing...that is.

educate me if you would. I plan to teach my son all I can about growing from my 20+ years of experience...and I'm kinda blown away that I don't see more folks helping others set up gardens or acquire genetics so more people can be self-sufficient and free of these high-priced business models/monopolies/etc.

Is there a (legal?) reason more folks aren't growing and are merely waiting on others to provide for them?

Some people have more money than health.
It's probably better to spend $400 on an ounce of cannabis that is potent than $50 on an ounce on brickweed.

You say that it doesn't cost the Producers $400 an ounce to grow......but are you factoring in the startup costs? Like a warehouse,security,enough equipment to grow 90 plants,payroll,license fees,etc.? Personal production is very different from commercial production.Plus,the NM DOH requires that the prices not be too low,as there is concern that patients will resell their meds at a profit,as some pain meds patients do.

Hey blackhash. Very interesting and informative post. To answer your question about producers, unless it's changed, DOH requires all cannabis to be grown organically. No hydro allowed.

I think it may be because some medical patients can't risk adverse reactions to other meds they may be prescribed for various conditions.I could be off base but that might be an issue.I leave those answers to more experienced growers and medical professionals.

I understand both challenges you speak of, folks (and there are more, unfortunately).....but how do these same people then afford $400 an ounce for medicine via a State sanctioned "dispensary"?

Pot always commanded a high price because it was illegal to grow. now it's legal...and it's STILL $400 an ounce? non-profit my @55!! It sure doesn't cost $400 an ounce to grow. Such pricing is a crime in itself!

Doesn't seem fair. it's good to go SLOW but not THAT slow.

All I can offer over this medium (without PM's) is knowledge....and maybe down the road the offer of some used equipment if someone truly has the need.

Greetings blackhash, I agree, it would be nice to see a more reasonable price per unit, the current cost are inflated and the idea that security and other startup cost would justify the current cost is nonsense. if you would like to exchange growing tech. and other information regarding medical cannabis, I would be happy to speak with you, I am on the board of directors for two of the licensed producers and serve as the VP at one of the non-profits, if you PM me I will get my contact info to you. hope you are well and I look forward to speaking to you.

The producers are making good money. Nonprofit just means a production company can't have any profit left at the end of the fiscal year. To get around this, they pay themselves big fat salaries.

I think the state encourages keeping prices at street level. No matter how you slice it, 400 an O is way overpriced. But I think the state is scared to let the producers sell cheaper. Think if med people could get O's for 200. Many an unscrupulous persons would be temped to make a profit. It's great for the producers, but bad for folks like us who really need it.

Yes these producers are making money no doubt. I don't fault them for that but yeah they could charge less and still live well.

4 bills an o is a bit off,more like $420(not funny) plus tax and for some a BS delivery fee and having to track down the delivery guy. When all of this is considered along with travel it is far more than $400. Of course,especially now,here, there is no such thing as a quantity discount right. LBS of killer Northern Lights in Denver don't sell for $400 an o and not even close to 3k and they aren't that hard to find,even 5 yrs ago. I wonder what people pay in NorCal for their meds when street prices are between 2-3 bills.

Anyway,don't know about anyone else but from what I've gotten that was "medical grade" does not have me at all eager to spend 400 on. There is some bombdiggy on the street that is just that and cheaper.

In defense of our current Producers. They are hard working, dedicated, compassionate individuals. I have had nothing but great experiences (with the exception of one who I will never order from) with them. They are literally between a rock and a hard place. They are doing all they can to help the patients and in the meantime deal with the FEDS and checkpoints.

Kudos to our producers. I'm surprised they were able to get ANY product out to the patients with all the restrictions and stumbling blocks.

Is the DOH going to let us know about the new producers and how to contact them (once product is available of course)?
