Compare the MMC application to the application for a liquor license, also available on their site: they ask for the same things. The price of the license is the most objectionable thing, IMO, although I don't think it out of reach for most businesses. Some level of scrutiny is appropriate: we just have to find that level.

I'm a teacher in Colorado and I had to give fingerprints, criminal history, personal background investigations, academic records and about a zillion other things. I also had to obtain a college degree. On my tax forms I have to give information about my [nonextant] dependent children.

I think what you say is possibly true. Rocky Flats closed twenty years ago when employee scrutiny was much more lax than today. A google search indicates that standards are more strict now in nuclear facilities, civilian and military.

Well yea, you're around kids all day. Not to mention you are comparing apples to oranges, one is getting hired as a profession, the other is attempting to become a small business owner. Small businesses are what keeps the gears turning in this country and should never be discouraged as the case here.
