    Doctors for PTSD

    Hey everyone!

My name is Erika. I'm new to the forum but so far after browsing it looks like there's going to be some great info to gather here and hopefully we can organize some good advocacy for the state program to keep building and stop stalling.

I'm hoping that we can start a few threads that make doctors in NM easier to locate based on conditions. Coolslayer, I've seen you direct readers to your "find a doctor" thread...but for some reason, I can't find it. Will you please link to it?

I received my registration card in late May 2010 and was able to get meds from NewMexicann yesterday for the first time.

Please, if you are a registered patient with the NM Medicinal Cannabis Program, add your doctor's info to a thread with you condition.

    Thanks!

I realize that I keep posting to my own thread...sorry. I tried to edit my last post but my allotted time ran out (?)

Please only contact Bryan Krumm if you have been previously diagnosed with PTSD or suspect that you may have it. I'm a regular patient of his and know that his schedule is PACKED. He does not give information on other practitioners that may prescribe for other registered conditions.

On another note. If you have PTSD and are interested in other methods of treatment, please check out Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing at:

There is a wonderful licensed clinician in Albuquerque that I've been going to for almost 2 years and it has helped tremendously.

    Doctors for PTSD

    Hello Erika,

Thank You for posting your experience with Desensitization. I have long know it to be an option but I know I cannot afford it however I am pleased to read that the procedure has helped you.

I was diagnosed with PTSD by a CNP but 5 days in the psych ward @ Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces is what led to a separate consensus among nurses, doctors, and 2 psychiatrists. The events leading up to this are now embarrassing but I received compassionate care and was approved in 10 days.

90% of people do not want to have to be confined but as in my case it turned out to be a lifesaver and I actually felt safe in sort time despite the the face plant is was given in the ER.

I would rather not state names as I was later told that I was the first person to have a positive results from these providers.

The point of my whole rambling is that if you are really going down and unable to restrain your symptoms the hospital is always there and they will provide a person with a complete evaluation. The way it is done is in such a manner that a condition cannot be faked unless you're James Bond. I was brought in by Sheriff deputies who were surprisingly well trained on how to handle me in my condition,no criminal charges as a result. The security guards in the ER were very unprofessional, condescending and that is what lead to two of them slamming my face into the floor. I am confident that if one were to walk in and express their dilemma that they would be taken care of in a compassionate manner,of course taking into account the 1 or 2 chickenhearted aides.

This of course for most is a last resort but if a person was a bad off as I was it can be life saving as it was for me. A walk in experience avoids all of my unpleasant dealings and the TRUTH can provide one with all the necessary dictation and J.H.s needed.

I am sorry for the rant but there is a last resort and you live through it.

    Erika,

Would you happen to know if the Traumatic Brain Injury fund provides an individual with financial assistance for procedures such as Desensitization?

I was told by multiple sources in the hospital that have urged me to apply for it and I have a documented ICD-9 code. I am just reluctant to hand outs but would take it if applicable because my injury was the result of a traumatic car accident that I was not faulted for.

    Off topic a bit folks,sorry.

Erika, Any input is utmost appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Chance

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I think that there will be many PTSD patients that will find consolation knowing that they are not alone when they read your story. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you in the ER. I wish that it hadn't happened.

As far as information about the TBI fund, I really don't know anything about it. I would encourage you to try, though. There is nothing wrong and no shame in applying for aid if it's out there to be given.

    Erika,

Thank You for your response and your request made my day.

The Traumatic Brain Injury Fund run by the NM Aging & Long-Term Services Department. My application has no web addy however a phone # 1-866-451-2901.

The only facts that I know are that the program provides short term financial assistance to those who have had debilitating head injury. The funding comes from $5 being included with a speeding citation,it more than likely is included in many more traffic related citations however I cannot say for sure.

I have had multiple events that led up to my diagnosis and enrollment in the MCP.

I really hope my posted experience can help others realize that they are not alone and that in all too many cases "poly-substance" abuse occurs in times of internal crisis and does not warrant the label of addict. In the last 15 years of my life I had become a master of self medicating with mind erasing combinations. My heart has and still is full of love despite years of hating myself because I viewed myself as a worthless, weak junkie. I finally have realized what led me to do,or painfully not do, certain things in my life.

*This is a forum solely for Cannabis I know so to many this post is out of place. What is relevant here is that Cannabis has saved me from myself, saved others from me. Most importantly though is people helping people,we all found this forum for a reason.

    Doctors for PTSD

Just what i was looking for - a thread on PTSD. I've been diagnosed w/ it by about 5 psychologists, but it was a while ago, and I don't have their documents (didn't see a need to get a copy at the time). My b/f is certain he has it, too. He never thought of it until a friend mentioned it to him. He is, in fact, a psychologist (he quit) who worked in a VA hospital with Vietnam Vets who were addicted to heroin, when they came back. Many of them committed suicide, etc. while there. This all traumatized him since he got very involved in their lives. Also his program (based on art therapy) was taken away from him in favor of methadon. He qualified in CA as a patient for this reason. Would that help him in NM (showing his CA card?). As for me, how would I go about getting a diagnosis AGAIN, so I can get the documents.?
I have tried EMDR. The last therapist I saw said she didn't think it would help me at this time. Though I thought it did help some.
I've also been diagnosed with arthritis, but again, never bothered getting paperwork. Mine is not amazingly severe, just some pain and popping in a few joints! But no huge swelling or anything (except fingers, sometimes). Wow, don't I sound like a winner

I was diagnosed with PTSD and was just wondering if a note from my psychologist is enough to be approved for the card. Or do I need a note from my psychiatrist. My counselor has a phd in psychology. I tried contacting the department of health but was told it can take up to a month for them to respond. ???
