trouble with 2 week old seedlings!Help please!!
I am a first time grower. I have 5 2 week old seedlings that germinated by way of propagation kit and sprouted just fine. however i put them under a 120 watt sylvania spot gro at first because my 1000 watt MH hadnt came in yet. well the seedlings started turning yellow a couple days after i put them under the spot gro light and seemed to stop growing. I had them about 1 foot away from the light for these 2 days and then moved it to about 4 feet after they started looking worse. the cotelydons continued to turn yellow, and then became crispy as if burnt. i moved them from the propagation kit to their pots because the roots were starting to go thru the peat pellet. i put them in a pot with miracle grow soil with a nitrogen level of .21%, a phospate level of .075%, also had soluble potash of .14% and iron of .1%. at this point my MH light came in so i put them under it about 5 feet away. Temp in the room varies from 80-90 degrees and RH is 55%. they have been under the MH for about 5 days on an 18/6 light cycle but are still looking bad as if burned. the stems still seem pretty strong but the plants are not growing. they have not produced any more leaves and the cotelydons look dead.. i have fans in grow room for ventilation but i cant figure out why they arent growings.
any ideas on what caused the seedlings to head in this direction?
and is it too late for them?mj71989 Reviewed by mj71989 on . trouble with 2 week old seedlings!Help please!! I am a first time grower. First off, those spot lights give off more heat than usable lumens, and likely you've burned em. Old damage never repairs, so old leaves are old news.
Likely a bit of stunting going on, as changing light spectrums will stress a plant. I've never used a 1000w to grow seedlings, but for 5 plants...it's overkill, lol. 5 feet away is the outside edges of usefulness for a 1000w, but do you have an enclosed hood, or is there even glass between the bulb and the plants? (like a bat-wing or parabolic reflector) Check the "Dealing with heat issues" thread in my signature.
Do not add more nutrients, the soil has plenty for a month or two after transplant. Do not let the soil of a seedling overdry. Conversely, don't keep them saturated, either.
Filling-out the troubleshooting form and providing pix would help. Might be something other than the light. (ph issues, additives or teas...)

hi,
seedlings have enough food in them to keep them growing for about 2 to 3 weeks...closer to 2......after that you have to feed them....what it sounds like is going on with your plants is they are nitro deficiant and are eating them selves to live ...hence the yellowing...I use the fox farm nutes.....grow big has a high nitro conent for vegging....id get some of that and start giving them diluted feedings . ditlued because they need to aclamate to the potency of the nutes and to much will burn them...start light work up...I never use full strengh period...also since your a begginer...ph your waer afer the nutriants are added as fox farm has ph propertys included. here the tap waer is 7.6 out the tap....my nutes bring it to 6 and I add ph pro "up" till it reads 6.4...ph is important...to much ajustment can stress the plans and cause them to hermmie in flower.

2 weeks old is too young for ANY additional nutrients. mj71989 has the seedlings in Miracle Grow potting soil, and you want him to add more nutrients...? Is it your goal to kill a cannabis patients meds, or does it just appear that way...? If you can't read the whole post and understand WTF is going on, perhaps you should avoid offering help till you DO know.

trouble with 2 week old seedlings!Help please!!
hey thx for getting back to me rusty. unfortunately all of the seedlings i was previously talking about have died. i believe it was the light that caused it. I have since planted 5 new ones in solo cups 2 days ago all of which have sprouted. i have them in a MG soil mixture that is for the development of strong roots for seedlings. I put the seedlings under the 1000 Watt MH this morning and since then they have all developed a set of leaves. they are looking a lot better. they are all about 2 and a half inches tall. i have them about 4 feet away from that MH light.
another question i have is, when should i transplant them from the solo cups into their pots? and should i change the soil type since this soil seems to be designated for seedlings? if so what kind do u recommend?

Bummer about the seedlings, but it seemed likey to happen. But, old plants are old news...just don't fry the new batch, lol. Keep on top of their moisture, that light will dry 'em out quick.
I'd transplant when the leaves all overhang the cup. And yes, a 'normal' indoor potting mix would be wise. Most commercial potting mixes are fine, as long as it's ph buffered, and has perlite.
If forced to use soil with time release nutes, go with the one that only lasts a couple of months. Avoid those that last 4-6 months.
