Off to Amsterdam !!!!!

Going to Amsterdam on Sunday with my mates for a couple of days. Would appreciate some of the veterans to recommend some good coffee shops other than barneys and greenhouse etc, the less well known but equally good ones. Also any other stuff on the red light district and do's and donts !!

Dampkring, Grey Area, Katsu, Kadinsky, there are a few others also. One I personally liked was Kashmir. They have a shop that sells weed, but they own a bar across the street with a sweet smoking lounge and you can drink beer and smoke there. Mostly a place for the locals and you'll need to take Tram 1 and get off at Jan Pieter Heijestraat, then walk about 400m down JPH. Note JPH is not the name of the street the tram goes on, it's the intersecting street.

Be sure to plan things out before you go. On google you can see the tram stops and click on them to see which lines go by there. Welcome to : GVB has more info. After visiting so many times (lived in Alkmaar for 6 months and in Amsterdam for 5 months) I really got sick of the RLD and central area, really fast. IMO the real Amsterdam is beyond the Rijksmuseum and that ring, although the scenery around the canals in the center is pretty nice.

Here's another site worth checking Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory - Amsterdam Map Look for the reviews before just stepping into any old coffeeshop. Some of them really suck!

Cheers finn. I printed of the map and have highlighted the ones you reccomended, will try to visit them all and tell you what i think cheers for all the advice aswell mate
