Questions about Vaporizers and Lung Cancer

Hello. First post here, and I wholeheartedly apologize if this is very obviously posted or found somewhere -- I'm scrambling a bit, on top of still freaking out multiple times a day so I'm not my normal internet-forum-using self.

My mother just recently (3 days ago) was diagnosed with Stage 3 inoperable Lung Cancer. She starts Chemotherapy in 4 days on July the 1st. My most primary concern at the moment is learning how to, and understanding the best way to administer medical marijuana medication to her whenever she needs it daily, but most importantly during the time of her Chemo.

Being that this JUST happened, I'm scrambling for information and help -- I've contacted my local NORML chapter representative for my city (Traverse City, Michigan) and am going to try to do this "Right" in the next few weeks, however I do really want to know some way to help her before she goes in for Chemo.

Can a Lung Cancer patient use a vaporizer? Is it even recommended? Money isn't an object to me at this point, I'll overnight a volcano if it's a safe way for her to be able to medicate for the chemo this Thursday. Does she do this before the chemo treatment, during, after? I'm also aware of ingesting, but since I don't have a license or caregiver for her yet, I'm doing this "On my own" for her until we find one, so I don't really have the supply or know-how on how to make it consumable for her.

I apologize if this was all over the place, but as I said I'm kind of in a constant state of losing it and running around trying to figure out what to do all at once. I appreciate any help anyone can provide greatly. Thank you.

Questions about Vaporizers and Lung Cancer

Thank you for the help so far, everyone!

Yes, thankfully I live in Michigan, so Medical Marijuana is legal. I got in touch with my local NORML representative and he pointed me to a local Compassionate Care facility for Medical Marijuana. We have an appointment tomorrow with the doctor. She seems very sweet, she took a personal interest in us since she lost her mother the same way before it was legal, and is opening early and doing everything for us immediately tomorrow.

Most of the people there, however, said she'll probably only want her to ingest it instead of inhale it. I've never used Marijuana in a vaporizer before so I don't know how much or little effect on the lungs it has compared to traditional smoking methods, but I was just scrambling for a way I knew I could help administer it to her if I couldn't find a caregiver with Tincture or Butter readily available. We'll see once I speak to the doctor tomorrow more.

Thanks again for any help you guys have provided so far, and I welcome anything anyone else has to say as well. The more informed I am the better I can help my mom!

Great. The reason why I asked is that you said that you don't have a caregiver and that you don't have the supplies or the know-how to make edibles, but being that you live in MMJ state, edibles are widely available at your dispensaries.

While vaporizing is really the healthiest way to inhale cannabis, it can still be a lung irritant and for someone who has been diagnosed with lung cancer, I would think that edibles would really be the better alternative.

Also please take note that smokina above has only 3 posts here under his belt and in all three he provides a link to bostonvapes, a distributor that only offers three vapes for sale, and interestingly enough, the ONLY vapes that he has suggests in his threads are the vapes that bostonvapes carries. Being a shill for a company is one thing, but providing profit-incentivised advice to someone in need, such as your mother, is more than just a bit disgusting.

Best of luck to you though, and I do hope your mother pulls through this with the least amount of discomfort possible.

Please disregard my statement above about smokina. Apparently the mods took action and they deleted his posts and he's no longer here.

Unfortunately, Michigan isn't nearly as far along as California is in terms of Dispensaries and availability. Fortunately, after visiting the Clinic here, I've been put in touch with a lot of Caregivers whom make all the edibles themselves generally, so I think in the long run we'll have no problem getting them. I've also become her licensed caregiver, so as long as she thinks the effects of Medical Cannabis work for her and she enjoys it, I will eventually start to supply her own and make her own edibles.

The doctor said that while vaporizing wouldn't negatively effect her health wise in any way, because of her lungs and cough, she didn't recommend it. She said if she has the ability to try it at a meeting she can choose to do so and see if maybe it doesn't irritate her at all, but she's pretty sure it would.

Thank you for the help, lwien123. It may not have been much, but it was enough to keep me from freaking out before I could get to the clinic with her. I feel a lot better being introduced to the "community" up here as it were, it's nice to know there are other people willing to give help and advice up here, as it really isn't as openly accepted and championed in Michigan as it is in California.

Questions about Vaporizers and Lung Cancer

I'm not trying to be a pain in the keister by presenting a view which may differ from one of our more enthusiasitic vaporists but we're talking about this woman's health; an individual with a very serious lung condition.

In that respect, I would suggest that anyone with a lung condition avoid vaporizers such as the lunch box (I joke, actually known as the launchbox). There is a very high probability that the user, particularly a new one, will create combustion during ingestion while using this particular device.

Have you considered getting your own vape and using the ABV to make her cookies and such?

Best of wishes, man. Hope your mom's health improves. Thank God you're in a state in which you're able to utilize this particular med.

There's only one other person in this thread and that's me. So please tell me where we disagree here. How do our views differ in this situation because I said essentially the same thing you said and that is for her, edibles would be the way to go.

Thanks for the well wishes, I appreciate all of them I receive!

What do you mean by ABV? Sorry, I'm new to most of this as my only experience is traditional smoking methods recreationally, not medical applications for non-users.

I think we're going to stick to edibles for now, I found a bakery that can make whatever I request, and we'll see how that works out for her over the next week or so and go from there.
