nute shopping 4 first grow. need some help

I'm growing some fem. snow white seeds from nirvana and wanted to know what nutes I should use. Don't have a lot of money to spend and I've seen some nute packages get pretty pricey. Any advice is greatly appreciated:jointsmile:

im growing with soil. im gonna make my own mix but havent decided with what yet. ive done quite a bit of reading since i posted the question and think i got enough info to make an educated decision:thumbsup:

If it is a soil grow I would get the 3 part foxfarm nutrients hands down. 3 part base liquid nutes and also get their 3 part powders. Plus molasses from the grocery store

i've always used botanicare's pure blend pro grow - liquid karma - bloom (for soil)

the bloom for soil will have a higher phosphorous rating, apparently soil is a phosphorous hog

I would recommend checking out Jack's Classic All Purpose and Blossom Booster.

If you wanna see the results of these nutes, just check out my grow log. I have seen FF nutes before and they are not anything special. Companies prey on people using their fancy labeling and 3 bottle package, when in reality, you only need two, there really is no need for supplemental nutes unless the company that makes them is only out to make extra money. The nutes should be covered in 2 parts, one with high Nitrogen, and one with lower nitrogen and higher Potassium, and Phosphorus. That's it.

Jack's Classic is very cheap with non fancy labeling and to me it works better than FF or anything for that matter, it is organic and water soluable, so you can use it in soil or hydro grow.

The price is the cheapest anywhere, go to your local nursery or check out the link at the bottom of this post they will sell it locally since most nurseries use it on their plants. It is priced around $3.99-$5.99 for each, max you will spend is $13.00 and it will last you years. Jacks is a company that is out to give you the best bang for your buck, no bs hands down. You might also wanna check out other forums or google jacks classic marijuana, and you will see how many experienced growers are using it and recommend it.


Anyhow, here is a link to find out where they sell it in your area, All Purpose and Blossom Booster is all you need the entire grow. Compare this to other nutes and search online for growers that have used this, along side other nutes, I promise that 90% of the people will say this beats the rest, price, quantity, and quality. Use this with FFOF Organic soil and the results will speak for themselves. The JC nutes you only need to use very very little when plating in FFOF Organic, I would say 1/8 the recommended dose in a full gallon.

I've been using the Fox Farms trio for years, and despite the inaccurate info previously posted, it does great. I've tried Botanicare, Canna and General Hydroponics, but have always gone back to what is easy to use, reliable and reasonably priced...which is Fox Farms. The Tiger Bloom and the Grow Big have all the micronurrients your plant needs for their respective grow cycles, and the Big Bloom is a catalyst tea that is a compliment to both. If you do go with the Fox Farms trio, download, print and follow the FF Weekly Feeding Schedule online. (the FF web site)
There is no need for a beginner to get the soluables. Get used to the base nutrients, and your results will be fine. And unless you know what you're doing, the soluables can do more damage than good.
If you do go with the FF, they offer a handy feeding chart online, and there are plenty of us with actual experience with Fox Farms that can help you if need be.

Usually best to get a commercial potting mix, unless you have prior experience with mixing your own. From getting the component ratios correct to proper ph balance, there are many places for a newcomer to go wrong.

Also, don't fall for the "more is better" bullshit when looking for nutrients and additives. You don't need 5 different additives, 6 nutrients, 3 teas and a couple of "supergrow" tonics. Get to know your plants and the base nutrients first. The more you add to your plants, the quicker things can go bad, and the harder it will be to diagnose problems.

Organic does not equate to being "better", but it usually does mean "more expensive". A chemical compound is a chemical compound, and the plants don't distinguish between the two, nor do they give different results. This "organic is better" myth is the result of decades of marketing hype and misinformation.

Stay away from flowering nutrients that are high in nitrogen. It greens-up the plant nicely, but tastes like shit when it's smoked.

How is what I said innacurate? Fox Farms Nutes are way overpriced compared to JC, which is why I am not impressed, granted for the money you pay you do get results but not anything spectacular. Say you spend $50 on the trio pack vs less than $15 on Jacks, which also has all the necessary micronutrients in good proportions.

JC for the price compared to FF JC has the same if not better results than FF, granted you have experience with other nutes, and no where in there do I see Jack's, I have used FF and Jack's and have seen results compared side to side. TO me, FF nutes is just way overpriced and too flashy, which brings me to my point that they are ripping people off - compare the prices vs results.

Rusty you are correct about soluables imho, they can be harder to understand for beginners but if you have the money I stand with you on FF, but once you get enough understanding and go easy your first time around with JC it will be a new favorite, and very easy to manage once you know what your plants can take. But for the money and results from myself and others online and friends, I say JC is the best all around.

I know there are many factors in growing and not just nutes, so this thread is based on my opinion from using FF and JC first hand. Results will vary from grower to grower, which should also be taken in to consideration.

Jacks is the old Peters line, right? Nothing wrong with it, but I prefer the flexibility of the FF line, and have found nothing that does better. I always recommend keeping it simple and cheap, and have nothing against Peters, or Jacks or Miracle Grow, but saying any one of those products is better than FF is folly. At best I'd say...perhaps as good.

Granted, I'm not a commercial grower, but I do demand the best from my ladies, and FF fits the bill. If you're happy with your Jacks, great. But I'm not buying into the Jacks is better theory.

Regardless, I'm not a big fan of using soluable nutrients. For Ambers roses sure. (Amber is my wife) For our meds, no thank you.
