Sure they wern't preflowers? The calyxs and pistils start showing when they're approaching sexual maturity. Tizn't really a sign of actual flowering.

Are they in-ground, or in pots?

How big was the hole you put 'em in? (would a 5 gallon pot have fit? A 3 gallon...? 10 gallon?)

Is there good drainage? (how long would the hole have taken to drain if filled with water?)

I'm an indoor grower, but it does looks like either overheated roots, or perhaps rootbound. (inadequate water uptake...?) Do you mist the plant at all? Do you foliar feed or use teas? These things may interrupt transpiration as well.

Not sure about salted water outdoors. But salt build-up isn't a good thing. What's wrong with your unsoftened water?

Have you checked the undersides of the leaves for insects?

How about filling out the peat-based soil troubleshooting form, and add these questions and answers. At least it will keep ya busy till an edumicated outdoorsy type stumbles along...
hey thanks for the replys. I couldnt find an outdoor troubleshooting form so i picked an indoor one, and answered all the questions that could apply to outdoor growing. i answered most of the questions that you asked rusty, in my first post.

they are grown in the ground using 15 gallon chicken wire gopher nets, the holes i dug were probably about the size of 20 gallon pots roughly 1.5' across by about 2' down...im not sure about the drainage, as the ground around them is pretty dense, but not at all mud. i did not add any perlite to the soil, but black gold and sunshine both come with a fair amount in it already. as for insects, its just the occasional spider, which gets his home ripped down when i see them, but i dont think they can cause this type of problem.

my thoughts were maybe the canopy got too large too fast and is now covering the soil so that no extra water evaporates, and the roots are not using all the water they are given.....ive let them dry out now for about a week and then fed them a half gallon a piece (i was giving them about a gallon or more before this due to the size of the plants) with a drop of superthrive and some foxfarm grow big.....thanks for the replies. i dont know if anyone can actually help me diagnose this, but an experienced outdoorsman might know what is up.....thanks, and lemme know if i need to give anymore info.
