As far as #3, I read somewhere (I can't find it now), that if you have a bulb in a reflector, more light comes out of the sides of the reflector (the longer sides) because more light comes out of the sides of the bulb, and it is mounted long-ways. Anyway, the footprint usually stated in catalogs shows a square, so I guess it is moot. That's why I read put the long sides of your light reflector parallel with the short sides of the room for most coverage. Maybe I could get 2' x 4' coverage this way with a 400w in a narrow closet, that's what I was thinking...
