you cud let it sit in darkness after 1pm till 4am, then flip the switch. darkness wont hurt the plants, too much light will freak them out.

which is less confusing to a plant, an extended night or an extended day? does in affect the plants more during flower or veg? wouldnt a slow change be safer?

Not exactly true. Cannabis is a photoperiod dependent plant. A dark cycle lasting 12 or more hours could trigger flowering hormones to be released. Likely it won't happen in one day, but it isn't fair to say darkness won't hurt. Cannabis is triggered by the DARK period, not by how much light, but rather how much uninterrupted darkness it gets

Longer days would be less confusing because it doesn't cause any hormonal changes.
