TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tehran-Damascus unity has thwarted enemies' plots.

In a meeting with Syrian Vice President Faruq Al-Shara in Tehran Tuesday evening, Ahmadinejad said enemies have failed to make Iran and Syria isolated and stabilize Zionist regime in the region.

"Today, enemies are in the position of weakness, and Iran and Syria are getting stronger due to their brotherly relations and unity," he added.

Faruq Al-Shara on his part called Tehran-Damascus relations strategic and said the two countries' plans benefit all nations.

He also said, "today entity of Zionist regime has been brought into question," adding that, "the regime's attack on aid flotilla carrying human aid to Gaza Strip is due to its worry and weakness."

Also in a meeting with Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi, Faruq Al-Shara hailed Tehran's trilateral declaration signed May 17 by Iran, Turkey and Brazil and said, "we believe that the Islamic Republic of Iran's progress belongs to all regional nations."

Rahimi on his part pointed to the declaration, saying that, "Iran has taken enough confidence-building measures in framework of international relations and it showed its goodwill by the declaration."

Also regarding Iran-Syria relations, he said, "the two countries are pioneers in defending oppressed Palestinians."

Rahimi expressed hope Syria can take back its occupied territories from Zionist regime.

Faruq Al-Shara also met Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili where the two sides discussed important regional and international developments.
