keeping them small...
... last year i grew my first crop! it was awesome, got just under 6 oz of bud. i had 2 indica plants and they only got about 3 feet tall, which was perfect to stay incognito.
this year i only had some sativa seeds so that's what i'm growing. the tallest plant is already knee high after only about a month in the ground (i grow outdoors). i have 6 plants right now and have topped them, but they continue to get taller. i saw a video on youtube where they were growing sativa, and the plant was about 2 feet tall and just buds coming out of the ground. how do you do that without putting the plant into shock?
i need to keep the within 3-4 feet tall. what's the best way to do this? have mercy on me, i'm a new grower, so i don't have much experience.flakeyfoont Reviewed by flakeyfoont on . keeping them small... ... last year i grew my first crop! it was awesome, got just under 6 oz of bud. i had 2 indica plants and they only got about 3 feet tall, which was perfect to stay incognito. this year i only had some sativa seeds so that's what i'm growing. the tallest plant is already knee high after only about a month in the ground (i grow outdoors). i have 6 plants right now and have topped them, but they continue to get taller. i saw a video on youtube where they were growing sativa, and the plant was Rating: 5

Didn't do your homework huh?
Sativas grow BIG. Plants of 15 ft are not uncommon. You have a big time problem. Hiding one is like hiding an elephant.
Your options are limited. Sounds like you will have to hack at her until she fits where you need her to go. Can you go wide in your plants space? If so give that a shot. I'm not even going to say what I would do in your shoes. You would not want to hear it.

well my idea would be to pull/bend them and tie them down,do so with force but dont snap them,it's easier to do this while they are young and the stalks are soft,.im doing a white widow this yr and i started only a few days ago,
you topped your plant already,so try and pull it down to where it feels like its going to break, then tie it to an anchor,to keep it pulled down, you will see lots of new branch growth, and continue to pull down the new growth,.if your plants stalks/branches are still soft, squeeze an area on the branch/stalk to soften it and you can form any direction you would want it to go,this does not in any way harm your plant it will form a hard knot where you squeezed it,makes that branch strong to hold the weight of the buds"unless you snap it"but they always heal with some tape..! if you need more direct info do some reading or ask me or others for help....
this probably wont solve your problem completely but it will help, remember im going to be doing the same thing as soon as she starts growing more...you did the right thing by topping now all those branches that are growing upwards pull them down and tie them to something..increases yeild because more light gets to the plants = more new growth etc etc..
good luck
p.s this is what i do and works very well for me.
what strain are you growing?
and that vid you saw must of been a clone put outside towards end of season very little veg time and all flowering time...\ i could be wrong though

oldhaole, i knew that sativa grows way bigger than indica, but these were the only seeds i could get at the time. i could go wide, just trying to get some info on how to trim the plants and not have them go into shock or turn from male to female, which is what i've heard they will do if stressed too much.
middieman440, yes i've heard of that technique before. how often can i trim the tops and still be OK, stress wise? kind of embaressed about the strain though. i had some seeds from some mexican brick weed and used them. i was going to buy some good indica seeds, but being a stoner, waited too long. plus they were really expensive yada yada yada...and i'm poor.
thanks for the comments guys.

well i just top my plants once, never tried messing around to much, but once was always good for me.since you are growing "mexican" weed does it turn to white man weed? joking sorry.
but with an unknown strain anything can happen and hermi tendancy is VERY high, just dont stress it out to much best bet since you topped it once already just tie the branches down.not much else you can do..
how many you got going...
the outcome might not be very good..
i would suggest order some seeds from a seedbank 'very easy and not much of a problem..
get some cheap ones to start go with "kc brains" check my threads in my profile for mango that was kc brains mango outdoorsthere are others like mandala seeds wich is very good also, and i think are 30 bucks.plus get stealth shipping another 20 something bucks plus free seeds usually one fem from atitude.get some within the month nd you can get a decent harvest still.
for you current grow to make them flower faster put a black bag over them at the same time every night and take off every-mourning at the same time to trigger them into flower and harvest early!!

i've got 7 plants right now, before sexing. i think this year i'm gonna go head with what i have, and hope for the best. we have a real short grow season here. most people with gardens (veg) have a hard time growing full size tomatoes and just grow cherry tomatoes. i live just above 6000 feet and by the start of october it was all over last year. i harvested in the first week of oct. and about a week later we had a freeze.when i harvested the triconomes (sp) were about 1/2 clear/milky and brownish. really good smoke.
a friend or mine uses these same seeds i'm using this year all the time and gets huge buds and good smoke. right now on a hot sunny day, when i get in with the plants it smells really skunky. i'm just gonna cross my fingers and let the Universe do it's thing.

dang, bending the plants sideways works really good. make branches sprout all over the place.

works wonders doesnt it,all them branches make lotsa buds
,now with all these new branches you can make funny shaped plants, even more safety for you, since people look for big bushes... good luck dude....and as always make sure that they have support branches will get heavy and snap!!

so far the plants are looking good. BUT today i noticed some holes eaten in fan leaves. there have been some bugs which i think are white flies, that i suspect is doing this.
what can i use to stop them? i'd like to stay as organic as possible. what do you guys use. outdoor grow.
