The 250 will be good for a small growspace, maybe a 2' X 2'... 1 -2 good size plants, you could pull a cpl ounces every few months. Anything bigger than that, I would go for a 400w or 600.
Also, if you can, go with a higher-end bulb, like the Eye Hortilux Super HPS.

Might be female, has 2 whispy looking hairs on side of each stalk next to leaf branch growths. (expand pictures) Has been 24/7 lights for 5 weeks.
