Why don't greenhouses use anything besides HPS?
My friend is old school: "HPS (and perhaps MH during veg) is the only light worth using in a large grow; it will result in the most yield per watt."
Being less experienced I suggested doing some experiments with LED & induction lighting. A lot of reports indicate you can get the same yield with half the power consumption. Typically because you can tune the wavelengths on these technologies, you get less "wasted" light.
His argument is: huge greenhouses have millions of $$ to invest in R&D, putting them ahead of any hobbyist or even commercial grower, and since they're all using HPS it must be the most efficient lighting available.vannewb Reviewed by vannewb on .
