I did use it for rats in California early 90s.

Just know that all rats are not created equal.
Ca. roof rats will eat yer steel wool and shit ball bearings.

Had one chew his way through some fine wool, so I replaced it with the heavy duty, coarse, damn near barbed wire, rough grade.
Ripped his way through that too!
