What I did was instead of LST was let them grow longer in veg to about 19 inches or so, that way I yield a little more than vegging for a short period of time. My closet constraints will not allow me to LST due to limited closet space. :/

And here are my clones, the method I use to get the clones growing is 100% success, I have seen this method done many times with other growers, but is not really discussed much around here, unless the search button lied to me idk

Anyways, here's a few.









So the clones are pretty self explanatory, used a non see-through black coffee mug for the cuttings. Plastic wrap with holes to suspend them in the water of pH of 6.3 below, leave about an inch below the surface of the plastic so that the last half inch of the stalk is in the water. I have them under 18/6 light some daylight the other MH. Took about 4 days for those roots to sprout, normal everyday humidity above the plastic wrap and 100% humidity under it (obviously)

I believe this to be the best economical and most effective method to cloning, no need to buy the expensive stuff when you could just as easily build something like this at home on a large scale. What gets me is the fact that I didn't use any rooting hormones on these... hmmm... maybe the rooting hormone is a hoax, idk... But seems to me that normal ph water will do the trick just as well.

Hmm. I doubt rooting gel is a hoax, probably just speeds up and better ensures root taking.

+1 The longest I've had a clone in a rapid rooter (which yours would need about 1/2" more root growth to explode out the side of the plug) was about 9 days,... (most have been 6-7) after that root growth was explosive under the humidity dome even tho leaf growth was stunted.

My biggest concern with an aeroponic/wet clone like your doing is the transplant shock into soil...... My wife's basil and 2 newest tomato's were all grown from seed in rockwool by the local hydro store in an areoponic system, and altho the root system was spectacularly hardy the shock of moving into soil stopped all 3 plants growth for better than a week and we lost foliage on all of them from the shock.

Yeah I fear the same thing, I am going to be as careful as possible when transplanting from water to soil, I think what I will do now that you mention it is make almost a soiless mix with mostly perlite and then FFOF mixed in there and just water more often to simulate the plant being in constant water, using less soil will also limit the growth of mold fungus etc, while at the same time allowing the plant to grow in a moist environment. And as I transplant add more soil. As far as transplanting I need to be careful not to crush/break the roots.

It's not a hoax. It stimulates root production. It also seals the end of the stalk. One concern when cloning is the formation of a tiny air bubble in the stalk. It will kill the clone. Cloning gel seals the end so that no bubble can form. I'm guessing this could be accomplished with something else.

Did / do you scrape the side of the stalk when starting the clones? This provides quicker rooting sites.
