Got stung by a bark scorpion last night

So last night I was laying on my floor on my side but somewhat upright drawing for a good 10 minutes. I decided to grab another piece of paper and when I got back into the position that I was in before I got the paper I felt this prick/sting on my left side a little ways above my kidney. Out of no where this intense burning sensation just came about and I started freaking out because I had no idea what had happened and apparently the scorpion had pinched me using both of his pinchers and then stung me.

I've never experienced that much pain before in my life up to last night! Also that was the very first time I've been stung by one of them and being stung by anything period so I had no idea what I was going up against right after it happened. Symptoms occurred such as burning and tingling in the area that was stung, shortness of breath, increased anxiety, muscle spasms in the area that was stung and else where on the body and blurred vision. One of the symptoms out of the many listed above that was the better of them all was that after you get stung some limbs or certain areas of the body will go numb. My face, mouth, hands and feet were numb 20 minutes after the sting and up until a few hours ago.

I'm glad that I'm not allergic to the venom and if I ever get stung again I know I'll be alright but I'd much rather not have to experience that ever again in my life time.

Though this still has left me an issue.. I have had a fear of certain living things that roam our planet such as scorpions, spiders, venomous snakes etc.. basically anything that can harm you and cause pain. Every time now that I'm in my room or just mostly in my house I have a fear of anything that can happen to me such as last night and over all anything can set me off such as a shadow . I live in Arizona so these scorpions are and will be pretty common. My normal anxiety has increased since last nights episode and I'm very twitchy and worried that I will be striked again by another or something worse.

I have no idea what to do about this personal but not so personal issue? I'm literally terrified and have absolutely no idea what to do with myself but besides to tell myself that everything is okay and hope that it doesn't happen again.

Last night, worst night in a very very long time

Sorry to hear that. Probably hurt like a son-of-a-gun.

I lived outside of Tucson in the desert for 7 years and never got stung or bit by anything. Just watch where you walk and be extremely careful of where you lay or sit down. Be especially on the lookout for small, white scorpions. I've been told their poison is the strongest.

We used to have an exterminator out to spray the foundation of our house every month after we found a white scorpion inside the house. I highly recommend doing that too.

damn, sorry to hear about it. we see scorpions and centipedes all the time here in Oklahoma, too. I think I kinda know what your going thru, I got bit by one of those brown recluse spiders last spring. I've been around them my whole life and never got bit until then. I had to the doc and get shots and everything but it all healed up, thank god. Now I am also very leary of spiders for the really the first time in my life. I am well stocked up on home guard  and spray it liberally all the time, inside and outside the house.

I got bit in the neck by a recluse and the numbness lasted almost a year and 3 years later I still have days where I can feel it...

Yeah it sure did hurt! I've never experienced anything like that before and I hope I don't have to nor anything worse haha

Wow you lived in Tucson? That's pretty cool, I'm not a big fan of Tucson but the scenery is beautiful. I've lived in the East Valley my entire life so that explains why I'm not a big fan of Tucson. Btw, how'd you like Arizona when you lived here?

Well Arizona is notorious for Bark Scorpions and the are one of the most deadliest scorpions here. Luckily for me I'm and adult and still young enough that my immune system was able to fight against the venom. Thanks for the insight on the white scorpions though! And yes we are considering pest control of some sort. There are many roaches outside and that is why the scorpions are here. Last time I checked I'm not a roach

Oh man what are centipedes all about? I think I've seen a few in my back yard but I could have mistaken them for millipedes! What was it like being bitten by a brown recluse? We don't have them here but we have the cousin of them here and they do just about the same damage I would believe.

Bummer dude, thats gotta hurt like hell.I too have a fear of lil creepy crawlies that can do harm to me. Down here in the valley we dont have scorps but we have black widows, and there is quite a few of them.I always make sure the walls in my backyard are clear so I can make sure my kids dont get near one.We have scorpions up in the mountains not far from here. I was lucky when I was in active duty to never see any in the other states ive lived.

Chameleon your lucky about the recluse bite on your neck, those things can do some major damage.

Centipedes are bad news too, they have big ole pincers and are venomous as well, the lil millipedes arent as far as I know. Ive seen Centipedes backpacking in the Yosemite area, they look cool but man dont get your hands too close.

I didn't like living on the AF Base or in town either, so I understand how you feel about Tucson. Once we moved out to the desert, I loved it. The stars were amazing there. That's what I miss most. Didn't spend much time in Phoenix, so I'm not real familiar with the "lay of the land". My son still lives in Tucson and he wants to move to Phoenix as soon as possible.

Like I said, I learned to watch everywhere. Arizona is chock full of shit with spikes, thorns, spines, stingers, claws, and teeth. Most of it is poisonous to some degree. We killed five rattlers on our property over the 3 years we lived there. I didn't like that we couldn't let our toddler grandson go outside to play much because of the wildlife. It sounds incredible, but I also got tired of the skies always being so clear and days so sunny. I'm an Adams family kind of guy and actually like the rain.

well, at least, for me, the spider bite didn't hurt or anything. I didn't even notice for at first. I did get a bad fever, tho, that's when I knew it wasn't a just a mosquito bite. if you get the doc quick they heal up good as new. I think the scorpion must be a lot scarier just because they hurt like hell. hope I never find out.
