Micro grow-op - few simple questions before I start

    Hello,

I started reading about cannabis cultivation because in my area MJ is quite expensive (think 300-400 euro per ounce), of questionable quality (from quite bad to moderately ok) and increasingly hard to obtain (perhaps I just don't know the right people... ) but that's beside the point... Before I go into all the little details I have few simple questions/requirements - based on the answer I should be able to decide whether it's feasible (and/or possible at all) for me to grow my own plants.

I'd like to grow for myself and myself only. An ounce or two of dried "ready to eat" bud every 2-3 months would be plenty, a bit more wouldn't hurt - I simply wouldn't have to plant so often. I've no intention of selling or sharing it simply because none of my friends would be interested and I don't want to go out and look for possible channels of distribution. I am looking to support my harmless little habit and not for an additional source of income.

I've somewhat limited space - I'd probably be able to fit a small growbox (such as this one - 60x60x120cm / ~25x25x50in) into my closet/corner of a room but that is just about it. Is it possible to contain the whole operation in this little tent (including drying etc.)?

A question about drying and odour control - I know that while drying bud has a very distinct smell. I presume the air coming out of the grow box can be filtered to stop/reduce this effect. I live in a rented appartment and while in theory nobody ever comes in here without my knowledge (my landlord is actually an agency and they are supposed to call me every time anybody needs access to the appartment so there are no surprise visits) I'd like to keep the whole operation as secret as possible for obvious reasons.

It should be reasonably easy for me to obtain seeds as well - which strain would you recommend? I read about the difference between sativa and indica but frankly I don't mind that much. I'd rather go for a strain that is easier to cultivate and generally fits better into my scenario than choose one that simply tastes better - you get the idea.

I am willing to invest my money and time into this but like I said, before I even begin I'd like to know if it's possible/feasible, as described above. I looked at this starter kit for growers - the price seems to be reasonable enough for me and it's supposed to include all/most of what I'd need. While I don't mind making some of the equipment myself I'd rather go for an off the shelf solutions.

I would be very grateful for any advice or pointers you could give me.

    Regards,
    Anthony

It would be a bit tight for a perpetual harvest op., but plenty of room to grow one or two at a time. That would give you an oz. or so every 4-6 months once you got your technique down.

It would be possible, I suppose to section off a shelf on the top of about 16" for a clone and veg. chamber, but it would be a bit tight. Younger plants don't really need all that much space normally. Also, if you choose to go that route you will want to use low heat lighting such as LEDs or CFLs, and make sure you have some good ventilation.

Make sure if you do a top, or bottom for that matter, veg. chamber that you seal all cracks and crevices so you have zero light penetration to the flower chamber.

Whatever you choose, good luck on the grow my friend!

You will also need a carbon filter to get rid of the smell exiting the tent, as you dont want other people in your building knowing your growing. The smell is very potent when growing and drying so take this into account !

For your first grow i would buy a hardy, easy to grow, skunk strain. Heres a link to some i bought and grew, they were very easy to grow and werent very sensitive to heat, cold and incorrect ph (hardy strain). They are also some of the cheapest feminised seeds around (feminised means your guranteed bud unless you muck up).

The bud also had a nice taste and high.

    Good luck
