Well, it never really just switches over to 12/12... It gradually works its way toward 12/12. June 21 is the longest day of the year (daylight hours-wise), after which the daylight starts getting shorter, and December 21 is the shortest day, after which the days start getting longer again.
Generally, outdoors you should see some preflowers around the beginning to middle of August, but its all approximate...
