I-28 supporters turned in 110,000 signatures this week to get dispensaries on the November ballot. We should easily pass this initiaitve, with 59% of voters polled 2 years ago saying they will support it.

Great - I live in Oregon and would love to see it legal. This is the oregon tax cannabis act right? Not something else?

Can you link to a source? I can't find much online about this. I was afraid they were having trouble getting enough signatures.

Oregon Cannabis Tax Act is going nowhere. The folks doing OCTA are not doing the groundwork to support it and they didn't even start collecting signatures unitl April. As far as I can tell, OCTA is just a red herring. Don't waste your money donating to that cause: they already know they will fail this year because they started so late and they don't have the funding to get it on the ballot, let alone run a campaign in the fall. OCTA can't have collected more than about 8,000 signatures so far and they need at least 120,000 by July to get on the ballot.

This thread is about I-28, the Dispensary Initiative. The supporters of I-28 have been collecting signatures for 2 years as well as going to public policy meetings to suport the idea even if it doean't pass at the polls (which it probably will, since polling shows that 59% of voters support I-28).
I-28 makes marijuana legal commerce in Oregon and is the first step to full legalization.

Thanks for the info Gro4Me. Hopefully I-28 will pass and so will california's full legalization initiative. I suspect that would open the doors for other states like oregon to do the same in the next years. People will see that civilization doesn't crumble when it's legal!

Do you happen to know when the next year oregon could put full legalization on the ballot would be: assuming california's passes?

We could do it for 2012.
In the mean time, I am going to public policy meetings and making marijuana legalization part of the public conversation. Somebody has to, and I don't usually see anybody else from our team when I go unless I bring them.

Good to hear :thumbsup:. Most of the pot smokers I know seem indifferent about its legalization. They'd vote in a referendum, but they're not so enthusiastic. People are too satisfied with decriminalization here in Oregon I guess...

I'm motivated primarily by the idea that it is simply not the government's right to tell people what they can and can't ingest. All drugs should be legal; it's a matter of basic freedom. I want drugs I'd personally never touch with a 10" pole legalized. It's not my business to regulate someone else's consumption; ...what a crazy thought!

The legalization bandwagon is at least a step in the right direction; decriminalization does nothing. (politically)

Unfortunately I'm quite new to pot and will be leaving oregon anyways . For a red state, *shudder*.
