    Vortex fan too loud

Hello people, I have a question for you.
Anyone have any suggestions for muffling the roar of a 6" vortex fan?
Mofo sounds like a jet engine!

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Whats up?

You can build a box that fits completely around the fan and line the inside with the heavy duty excersize matting that can be found at walmart. You can also hang the fan from the ceiling via a rope or chain to cut down on vibrations as well.

    Thanks for the replies people.

My problem isn't vibration, as the fan is suspended by chains from the frame of my cabinet. The problem is the roar of the actual air blowing out of it, like I said it sounds like a jet engine. I'm thinking a fan speed controller is the solution, I was just curious if anyone had any other ideas.

    Thanks again! Peace - dooobs

Well, its a turbine, so it pretty much is a jet engine, just small. You can build a muffler, just a box that has loosely stuffed insulation in it.

Thats a good idea C, thank you. Muffler box it is. I'll probably still invest in a speed control just for good measure, as well. Peace - dooobs

Fans speed controller is what you need. You should be able to get that sound down to very reasonable. You can build a muffler out of a simple cardboard box. Do a search for DIY duct muffler and you'll be set.

Ditch the vortex and buy a canfan. They're the quietest and I would trust nothing else.

Lol Joshish... Well, since I already spent the $100+ on the vortex, I'll just make do with it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You can get this thing called a reostat, its for adjusting the output of heating elements for reptile cages. All it does is limit the power going to the element. Pretty sure it has a ground, if not, you can probably find one on the internet.
